Let’s talk about herbs
The last of my calendula has been gathered, dried, and tucked safely away for the cold months ahead. There’s something wonderfully satisfying about filling the herb cabinet in the fall, kind of a jar of sunshine waiting for you know what ….wiiinnntteer!
Calendula (Calendula officinalis) has a long history in traditional herbalism, especially for topical skin care. Its flowers are commonly infused into oils and used in salves and balms to soothe dry, irritated skin and support minor skin healing.
But that’s not all
In folk-magic traditions, calendula is associated with:
-The Sun & warmth
-Protection
-Joy & optimism
-Healing intentions
-Divination and dream work
-Courage and personal power
For me, drying herbs feels like its own kind of magic, harvesting something that grew beneath the summer sun and preserving it for the long, dark Alaskan winter.
Sip with intention. Craft with purpose. And always leave a little room for magic
