Before you flip your thermostat over to heat this year, read this first.
Every fall we get the same call. Someone switches their system over to heat for the first time in months and either nothing happens or they smell something burning.
Here's what's actually going on most of the time. Dust sits on your heating elements all summer while you're only running the AC side. The first time heat kicks on, that dust burns off, and it can smell like something's wrong even when it's not. If that smell doesn't clear up in about ten minutes, or you hear banging or smell anything like gas, shut it off and call someone.
Have you switched your heat on yet this year?
Comment YES, NO, or I'M SCARED TO TRY, no judgment either way.
Save this so you know what's normal before you flip that switch. Greater New Haven, we're a call away at 475-414-0604.
