Thanks to mother nature, fungus is thriving on lawns right now, we are seeing an influx of two specific kinds, Dollar Spot and Leaf Spot.
Dollar spot is a common fungal lawn disease that affects many grass species, including Kentucky bluegrass, bent grass, and fescue. It manifests as small, circular spots that can be up to several inches in diameter and can merge to form larger areas of damaged, tan-colored turf. Dollar spot is often associated with high humidity, excess moisture, low nitrogen levels, and low temperatures. Proper lawn maintenance, including regular mowing and fertilization, can help prevent and control the spread of dollar spot
Leaf spot you can physically see on the grass blades up close, with textbook spots on the leaf. Leaf spot can be mild and cosmetic, which will grow out without any issues. On the other hand, t can become severe and continue to a melting out phase that will kill the affected turf.
If you suspect fungal disease on your lawn?
-Call, text or email into the office so we can assess!
-Start bagging your clippings to keep infected blades from going back into the turf
-Clean your mower blades often
-Keep your mowing blades sharp, dull blades cause rips and tears that make it easier for disease to get into the plant.
