🥶❄️ COLD SNAP ALERT: Is your home ready?

Parts of WNC will experience freezing temps this weekend. Cold weather can do more than make your house uncomfortable. It can lead to frozen pipes, unexpected heating problems, and costly repairs.

Before temperatures drop, take 5 minutes to protect your home! 🏠

✅ Keep the heat on. Maintain a consistent indoor temperature, even when you’re away. Never turn your heat completely off during freezing weather.

🚰 Protect your pipes. Disconnect garden hoses, insulate exposed plumbing, and let vulnerable faucets drip slowly when temperatures are below freezing.

🚪 Open sink cabinets. Allow warm air to circulate around pipes on exterior walls. Keep household chemicals away from children and pets.

🔥 Check your heating system. Replace dirty HVAC filters and make sure outdoor heat pump units have adequate airflow.

⚡ Prepare for power outages. Charge devices, locate flashlights, and NEVER use grills or generators indoors or near windows.

💡 BONUS TIP: If your heat pump switches to auxiliary heat during extreme cold, don’t panic! That’s often normal. But if your home isn’t reaching the thermostat setting, it’s time to have it checked.

A little preparation now can prevent a BIG repair bill later.

⚡ Their Hickory home is only four years old. A browned plug was still a warning sign worth checking.

A customer recently contacted Eco-One about an EV charger installation and asked us to check a few other electrical concerns while we were there—including a plug showing external discoloration.

That simple request uncovered bigger issues: a completely mislabeled electrical panel and garage outlets missing required GFCI protection.

Our master electrician addressed some of the issues during the visit, and we scheduled the larger EV installation and complete panel relabeling for a return appointment.

The homeowners were grateful for the answers and a clear plan to correct the problems. They made a smart choice by calling an experienced, licensed and insured electrical professional when something looked wrong.

🏠 Even a newer home deserves attention when electrical warning signs appear.

Watch for:

🔸 Browned, scorched or melted plugs and outlets
🔸 Unusual heat, buzzing or crackling
🔸 Burning smells or frequently tripping breakers
🔸 Breaker labels that don’t match what actually turns off

Stop using a suspect outlet or device and arrange a professional inspection. 🛑 Don’t repeatedly reset a breaker or assume discoloration is just cosmetic. If there’s smoke or fire, get outside and call 911.
