Hold on to that leftover paint! As long as it's sealed well, it can last for up to 2 years. Keep it for small touch-ups, especially in high-traffic areas like hallways, kitchens, mudrooms, stairways, or kids’ rooms.

Make sure to label it with the room or surface where it was used. That saves a lot of guessing later.

And if you have old paint from years past, be careful with disposal. Latex paint can usually go out with curbside trash once it has hardened and the lid is removed,but oil or alkyd-based paint should be brought to a local recycling center.

Can you get a painting estimate over the phone or by email? For smaller projects, sometimes if you can share clear photos and a few project details. However, most of the time, an in-person visit is the best option.

Two homes that look similar from the outside can need very different levels of repair, preparation, products, or access. A job site visit helps the estimate be more accurate and fair for everyone.

ProTEK Painters can talk through your project, look at what needs to be done, and explain the best next step. We usually can get you an estimate the same day we visit or shortly after the next day.

It may not be the most exciting question, but it matters. A professional painter should be able to provide proof of general liability and workers’ compensation insurance if you ask for it. And you should always ask for it.

Maintaining an active insurance policy is the law in Massachusetts. If a painter is willing to break the law, what else are they willing to do?

A few signs to watch for: peeling paint, cracking, fading, exposed wood, wood rot, mildew, or areas where the finish looks chalky. Your trim, siding, deck, or doors may look tired before your siding does, which we can help with as well.
