The first four pictures show the furnace that was not replaced in more than 40 years. The heat exchanger is completely carbonized and almost totally sealed. This is a life threatening condition because carbon monoxide can emit from a furnace in this condition. Annual maintenance and cleaning assures this condition cannot build up in your furnace. Typically carbon monoxide will come out of your furnace either by a crack in the heat exchanger, or in this case, when there is so much carbon in the heat exchanger that the flue gases cannot enter the chimney, so they spill into your home.
