Some emails make you stop and read them twice. This was one of them.
This was waiting in my inbox when I woke up this morning:

šŸ“§"We are so thrilled to let you know that your article has officially gone live on Dreamers & Doers Leading Visibly.

We are absolutely obsessed with how this piece turned out and couldn't be more grateful to you for taking the time to share your powerful learning lessons with us and the world.

You and your journey are so inspiring. What a gift for others to so deeply benefit and be inspired by it."šŸ“§

It was a pinch me moment, and I’m grateful that the ideas I've dedicated my career to are finding a wider audience.

For years, I've believed that both corporate and personal branding aren’t about becoming louder, chasing followers, or mastering self-promotion. Instead, the brands (yours included) become memorable and grow when knowledge, perspective, and value naturally earn trust, opportunities, and visibility.

That belief has shaped my teaching at UC Davis Graduate School of Management , my consulting work, and ultimately my book, Valuable & Visible.

I'm incredibly grateful to Dreamers & Doers: Leading Visibly for taking the time to tell that story and for capturing not just what I do, but WHY I do it.

One of my favorite quotes they captured in the article is this:
"I am so drawn to helping people harness their knowledge into visibility, impact, and credibility that I am now devoted to doing more of that in the back half of my career. As AI shrinks human opportunities, I want to be the antithesis of that. After all, humans created the knowledge that built AI—and the knowledge that continues to train it."

Thank you, Dreamers & Doers, for this incredible honor.
If you'd like to read the full story, I'd love to share it with you:

With a career rooted in marketing, teaching, and helping others translate their expertise into meaningful impact, Vanessa Errecarte brings a thoughtful and deeply human perspective to visibility. Her work as an educator, author, speaker, and founder of Marketing Simplified challenges the idea that p...

I'm not a fan of "selling" posts, but I AM a fan of making this work more accessible, so I wanted to let you know while the discount is available.

I've included a sneak peek of the introduction so you can learn more about my approach.

I hope this book reminds you that there is a more comfortable, self-promotion free way to unlock opportunities and gain credibility.

You’re so smart and capable but what you’re doing right now will NOT make social media work for you.

Attention undergrads, graduate students, job seekers, and career pivoters: The fastest way to disappear in business is to copy what everyone else does, so why are you spending all your time trying to do that to network on social media?

Followers, post volume, and elevator pitches do not create the outcomes you want and I am tired of you wasting your time. There’s a better way. Start by picturing someone you can help with knowledge you already have. Who are they and what would you tell them?

Help=trust. Trust=opportunities. Opportunities=what you deserve.

Just because everyone else is doing it, should you?

Welcome back to your teenage years, I know. But our parents were right on this.

So often we look at what other successful people have done in marketing and try to copy it. But all that does is drop you into a competitive red ocean.

Most people assume the path to growth is studying what worked for someone else and doing the same thing. But when everyone follows the same playbook, nobody stands out.

This week, Ryan Wilson and I discussed shared three unconventional ways from Valuable & Visible, that he used to grow his service-first personal brand and then his business:

• Speaking in person in addition to posting online
• Volunteering with mission-aligned nonprofits
• Responding to journalists instead of pitching them

None of these tactics are flashy. All of them create trust.

The lesson isn't to ignore what successful people do. It's to understand why it worked and then find your own version.

If everyone in your industry is doing it, your first question should be:

"Why would I?"

Swipe for three ideas worth stealing. šŸ˜‰

Which one of these are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments.

Three things that really help your online networking in the AI era:

1) Face-to camera video. It can be simple. It can be flawed. It can be short. All that helps make it more authentic. Start by using it as a tool just to tell people something you’re going to talk about in a written post and then let the caption do the work until you get more comfortable.

2) Lead with a tiny story. A few sentences are fine. Then transition into what you’re explaining. Here’s how it looks, ā€œSeveral years ago an absolutely incredible and talented student asked me for help finding a job. She should have had one without issue already, as should have so many struggling students that had come to me with the same issue before her. That was the day I decided to formalize one of the first MBA level courses in personal branding in the country. I was so tired of excellent, hardworking individuals blending in. It didn’t seem fair. Today I am going to teach you three simple ways to start standing out.ā€ That little story makes what I have to say way more memorable than ā€œToday I am going to teach you three things to start standing out.ā€ In fact, I bet you’re more into this post now than when you started reading itšŸ’”.

3) Ask a question and make comments back when people give you answers. Don’t let the screen in between you and the human behind it fool you. Digital communication is an extension of in-person communication. If someone asked you a question in real life, you would not do this 🫶 or this šŸ‘ and move on. You would engage. Don’t miss those opportunities online.

Which one of these will you try today?

P.S. I wrote this caption myself and proofread it myself. I did not run it through AI, even for editing. That helps too. People are developing an eye for authenticity. Let’s make writing with every once in a while a thing. That will also help you.

He waited until our second date. That’s when he asked if I wanted kids someday.

Jay Errecarte was born to be a dad.

He’s patient, kind, and has never wanted our kids to be any more or less than exactly who they are. He’s simply proud of them and in awe of them, all the time.

Happy Father’s Day to an amazing man whose heart is as big as he is, and who would do absolutely anything for our family.

We love you. ā¤ļø

Instagram, will you do your magic and please help me find who made Ella’s day at Safeway yesterday?

When I wrote my book, Ella jokingly asked me if she would be famous. I told her most likely no. She had lots of fun telling me I was wrong šŸ˜‚ .

And...I want to sign this book very badly!! I hope we can find who it is! Stay tuned...

Attention Gen Z, job seekers and pivoters: Act like your own CEO

AI screens candidates in ways that make it harder for you to stand out. You have the ability to bypass that bottleneck.

If you're thinking, "but I don't have a lot of experience"?

Here's the secret: you don't need to

What you do need is a plan to market your current expertise and what you can offer upstream.

Check out my interview with Inc. to learn more on how to execute this strategy. My book also provides a step-by step roadmap on how to build your service-first personal brand from start to finish.
