How are you feeling?

Analysis is highly important to our design process. Whether it's quantitative data collection for criteria building or a qualitative in-person visioning session, research is the driver that pushes the architecture forward.

Siegel, a New York City office, recently completed a new U.S. Land Port of Entry (USLPOE) that connects Madawaska, Maine, and Edmundston, Canada—a small town in New Brunswick with about 16,000 people. That firm was tasked with ideating a replacement structure on the road between the two towns.

Today, we’re taking a look back at a project that blends history, innovation, and respect for iconic design. We had the honor of designing and completing the skylight structures for the University at Albany, SUNY campus, originally designed by the renowned architect Edward Durell Stone in 1963. Stone, known for his work on the U.S. Embassy in India and The Kennedy Center, envisioned skylights that were never realized—until now.

The original design called for three skylights to cover the campus’ concrete plazas, but due to weathering, the need for new structures became clear. Our challenge? To create skylights that paid homage to Stone’s vision while integrating modern materials and technologies.

Through research and innovation, we used ETFE glazing, a lightweight, transparent material, to craft domes that maintain the scale and geometry of the original design while offering improved performance and flexibility. This resulted in stunning new skylights that not only provide light and shelter but also continue the legacy of a mid-century modern masterpiece.

We’re proud to have contributed to the preservation and modernization of this architectural gem.

We went searching for history's greatest minds to ask about their college days (we think we found them). Their answers? It all started in a space - a dorm room, a laboratory, a bustling quad. Maybe a well-designed campus isn't just a backdrop - it's where futures take shape. Let’s work together to imagine the future of student life, together (if you insist).
