A London family asked for California, and we gave them a hillside version of the Cotswolds: old-world weight paired with a lightness meant for a young family still growing into the house. The scale had to answer the ocean.
So the house did what a Parisian institution might do at that size: monumental white walls, gallery-scale windows, a staircase for making an entrance. It refused the residential vocabulary from the start.

As Lida explains, 'By design, the kitchen is intentionally spare, all of the appliances are integrated or hidden because it is so much a part of the entertaining space.'

Our clients wanted a home that was both modern and traditional. The answer was a series of cottage-gabled stone buildings, connected to one another by sleek contemporary bridges.
The two languages don't cancel each other out... they lean on each other, held together by the connectors that admit they're doing the work.
