This type-foundry started as a final MA project (June 2014). The first five font sketches were created whilst studying at UMPRUM in Prague.

Tight typesetting? Sexy. And Stylistic Set 10 takes it even further, bringing all those descenders up to cap height — basically making them bounce at the party.

Cassette has just landed in our type library!

Back in the ’90s, buying original cassettes was a serious financial operation for a kid. So music was copied from the radio, from friends or from the local library. But Martin Vácha had one extra step: the cover. While everyone else was listening, he was busy redrawing the artwork.

“I’ve only kept two cases with the booklets — Phil Collins and Prodigy — as my most valuable artefacts from that time (1996–1999).”

Cassette is allegedly the last sans-serif typeface designed by Martin Vácha

The typeface is a compilation of letterforms developed during other projects – shapes that remained only as sketches in the lower drawer, along with new, original forms. Some of the shapes included in Cassette are even older than the typefaces they were originally meant for, such as some of the rock stars of Displaay’s library: Roobert, Saans, or Haffer.

Another sans-serif you didn’t know you needed!

Meet Cassette featuring treasured drafts from the bottom of the drawer. Nostalgia can be experienced in many ways. Or you can use it creatively, as Martin Vácha did with Cassette. It’s a type-design project where he brings together sketches from previous typefaces that were actually never used. Now, all these outcast letters reunited to bring a completely new typeface to life.
