Short answer. Not always.
But in New York? Often.

Apartments here come with quirks. Narrow layouts. Radiators in the wrong place. Ceiling heights that shift from room to room. Custom pieces let us respond to those realities instead of forcing standard sizes to work.

It is not about being flashy. It is about proportion. Scale. Making a space feel intentional instead of squeezed.
When something fits exactly the way it should, you feel it immediately.

I designed this room over 15 years ago.

The view is doing its thing—but this is what makes the room livable.

A sectional you can actually stretch out on. A chaise that pulls you in and keeps you there.

Function first. Always.

Fabric stacks taller than us.
Things that shouldn’t work… working.
And that one chair we refuse to let go.

This is the messy middle.
The testing, the layering, the “wait—go back.”

Nothing about this is linear.
It’s instinct, a little chaos, and then—click.

Earth Day reminder:

Good design lasts. Materials that age well. Pieces you want to keep. Spaces that feel good to live in year after year.

Sustainability in interiors is not just about materials. It is about intention. Choosing fewer things, but choosing them well.

Spaces should evolve with you, not be replaced every few years.

Shoot days are full on.

Moving furniture by inches. Fluffing pillows again. Waiting for the light to hit just right. A lot of standing back and saying, one more tweak.

This was our Midtown project with my two Kellys. Photographer and stylist. The kind of collaborators who just get it. The work. The vision. The tiny details no one else would notice.

Long days. So many laughs. Always worth it.

Looking forward to more of these in 2026.

We think about this a lot.

The trim profile. The edge of a table. The exact tone of brass against walnut. These are the quiet decisions that shape how a room feels.

In New York especially, details do the heavy lifting. They turn tight layouts into intentional ones. They make old architecture feel current without erasing its history.

When the details are right, the whole space settles into itself.

A children’s room should feel joyful. But not chaotic.

We started with a strong moment. That coral bed sets the tone immediately. Confident. Playful. A little unexpected.
From there, everything softens. Subtle patterned walls. Warm neutrals. Layers that will grow with her over time.

It feels bright in the morning. Calm at night. And personal in all the right ways.

This sofa is finding a new home.

We originally bought it for a client back in 2017. Different apartment, different view—Hudson River then, Midtown city lights now. Same piece, still holding its own.

At 13' long, it had to come apart to get into both apartments. Not for the faint of heart.

We gave it a refresh and dropped it into a completely new context. And it works. That’s the thing about a well-made piece—it doesn’t expire.

In a room like this, scale is everything.
You either show up or you vanish.

This one shows up.
No hesitation.

Good design doesn’t age.
It just keeps working.

Art really helps me relax.
It helps me rage.
It says the things I sometimes can’t.

During these uncertain times—when things feel heavy, unclear, a little scary—art brings me back.
To myself.
To my community.
To what actually matters.

An afternoon at Studio Museum Harlem.

Stepping outside of active projects to look at something unrelated sharpens everything.

Color combinations that push you.
Scale that makes you pause.
Materials that don’t ask for permission.

It resets your eye—and something else.
Reminds you who you are.
Why you do this.
And pushes you to go a little further when you get back to the work.
