You’re planning to build a new home.

You out picked your furniture, major appliances, colors, kitchen and bath fixtures, cabinetry, lighting but the stair that allows you to move between floors is an afterthought. This is where things begin to go sideways because stair details are TBD in the middle of the build. The result…the entire project stalls. Decisions get delayed. Costs go up.

As part of your team, Lunna Designs coordinates stair related elements so you avoid “TBD” stair requests to keep your budget tight.

If you’re planning to build in New York City, Westchester, Fairfield or Long Island this year, comment BUILD and we’ll send you the link to schedule a call with our team so that your team does not lose a step!

A modern floating stair begins with clarity, not guesswork.

Before fabrication, the right questions need answers:

Where is the structure?
How much headroom is available?
Will the railing mount to glass, treads, steel or the floor?
Are LEDs part of the design?
Who is coordinating blocking, templates, and final measurements?

These decisions shape the budget before the first piece of steel is made.

If you are planning a modern stair and still working from only inspiration photos, the right first step maybe a conversation so that guesswork is replaced with clarity.

A stair detail can either feel like a compromise or become part of the design.

Lunna Designs was brought in when an existing modern, stair platform required more than just an adjustment. Frank reimaged the platform's inside structural design so that the outside would be outstanding. The project team fabricated the platform in our shop and delivered a finished product for onsite installation. The new 3-tier platform, with LED lights, resolved the previous condition while making the finished stair feel intentional, balanced, and refined. Even the family's pet feels more comfortable walking on the new platforms!

The result - better function and uncompromised quality. Custom fabrication matters because the hard details are never just details.

Black Friday is here! While you're "clicking" on ideas for your new, modern, floating stair for 2026, here are 5 takeaways to remember...

The opening isn’t fixed.
A few inches added or shifted early can improve comfort, sightlines, and code clearance.

The structure around the stair matters.
Floating systems rely on reinforced walls, headers, and landings—not just the stringer.

Lighting must be planned ahead.
LED channels, wiring, and clean reveals need layout before drywall to get that modern look right.

Glass and railing choices affect layout.
Thickness, offsets, and mounting hardware change how tight the stair can sit to a wall and how the whole system feels.

Finish transitions make or break the aesthetic.
Flooring, nosings, wall trims, and reveals should line up with the stair, not fight against it.

Happy Thanksgiving from Lunna Designs!
