🏙️ Today, September 8, 2026, NYC’s trash containerization rules go into full effect.
If you own a 1–9 unit residential property in NYC, take note: full enforcement of the official NYC Bin requirements begins September 8, 2026. 🗑️
properties with 1–9 residential units have been required to use official NYC Bins for trash setout. Starting today, DSNY begins full enforcement of these requirements.
⚠️ What you need to know:
🏠 Applies to properties with 1–9 residential units
🗑️ Trash must be set out in the official NYC Bin
📏 Other trash bins must be 55 gallons or less with a secure lid
💰 Violations can result in fines of $50 for the first offense, $100 for the second, and $200 for third and subsequent offenses
♻️ NYC Bins are also available for recycling and composting, although the official bin is currently required specifically for trash
Available sizes include 25, 35, and 45 gallons, depending on your property’s needs.
