Coinbase Lays Off 700 Employees in AI-Driven Restructuring

The company plans to cut 14% of its workforce, around 700 jobs, to build leaner, AI-native teams that can move faster. Armstrong highlighted AI's power to speed up engineering from weeks to days, while trimming layers to just five below leadership and favoring player-coaches over pure managers.

Affected employees receive generous severance, including at least 16 weeks of pay for U.S. staff plus health coverage.

Shares rose 3.75% in pre-market, reflecting investor support as Coinbase preps for earnings.

What truly makes something money?

Most people think money = government paper.
But that's currency, not money.

Here's the actual distinction:

Money = anything a group agrees has value and can be exchanged, stored, and used to measure prices.
Currency = money that a government legally forces everyone to accept.

That's the only difference.

Throughout history, humans have used giant stones, seashells, animal hides, salt, gold, and ci******es as money. In each case, the material didn't matter. The collective agreement did.

Bitcoin's case is straightforward:
It functions as a medium of exchange ✓
It's a unit of account ✓
It stores value over time ✓

The more people and institutions that agree Bitcoin has value, the more it becomes undeniable money by definition.

El Salvador made it legal tender. BlackRock holds it in ETFs. Corporations put it on balance sheets. Each of those is another person saying yes, I agree this has value.

That's the same process that made gold money.
The same process that made the dollar money.
Bitcoin is not a new idea. It's the oldest idea in economics, rebuilt for the digital age.

Me to my friend who just started trading In Crypto

North Korea-linked Lazarus Group pulls off one of DeFi’s most sophisticated heists yet: $292M stolen from Kelp DAO via a LayerZero bridge exploit. Instead of dumping, hackers used the unbacked rsETH as collateral on Aave to borrow clean ETH, triggering an $8B TVL exodus in 48 hours, the first major DeFi bank run. Most of the funds were then swiftly laundered through THORChain, shattered across BTC UTXOs, and settled via Tron USDT and Chinese OTC desks. All on-chain. All in under a week.
