one of the reasons I love native plants is the boundless creativity they hold….sure, you can use traditional landscaping techniques to design with them, but the real heart thump of it for me is knowing these plants consistently burst out of whatever box you’re trying to put them in. I’ve found that while they’re extremely resilient, native plants are also very sensitive to each yards complexities of site soil light etc, and I’ve learned so much over the years just watching them grow and interact.

When I’m building a yard, a huge percentage of how I place plants is from intuition and feeling - I often pop my head phones on and vibe out with the plants until something makes sense.

In this yard I got really into the feeling of TEXTURES and if you can’t tell I went maximalist texture 😁😁 I. also wanted to experiment with creat a native plant hedgerow along a few of the fence lines, so a couple areas are very densely and diversely planted with shrubs and time will tell what happens.

For the shade section we included some tropicals, which is actually one of my favorite parts in the whole yard!

BTW this is one of many reminders I’m gonna give you that NOW is a PERFECT time to start planning your fall native plant install !!!

Throwback to January 2026 :::: another one of a kind patio! We got inspired by the little shards left over from brick cuts and incorporated them into the design. It’s always an experiment to see where to be extremely detail oriented in designs and where to let things be a little more raw around the edges! A metaphor for life maybe ?! 😅

Very sweet working with this client who was into all the experimentation! We used a Kentucky brick found in her yard as the centerpiece of the design - an ode to her birthplace 😌😌.

When I last stopped by for maintenance I said to the client ‘wow it looks amazing what have you been doing ?!’ And she said ‘nothing !!’ It’s the plants doin it, y’all - and that’s what happens when you prep the soil and choose things that wanna grow (native plants 🙃🙃😁).

It’s been so fun seeing this grow in, I look forward to what new surprises it has with every maintenance visit.

Swipe through to see the total transformation of this yard! We turned the lawn into a permeable patio // native plant combo through a multi phase project.

In winter 2025 we started by installing the hardscaping, and then added cardboard, mulch, and compost to kill the grass and boost the soil. The final phase was right after Mardi Gras 2026 when we added 36 native plant species!

We had a lot of fun with this one - special thanks to the clients who were great to work with with and got creative with us 🌱🌱

🧱We are now booking patios for FALL 2026! 🧱

October 2025 ::: we used 10 tons of gravel and lots of reclaimed items from the space to transform this yard! The clients wanted a low maintenance area for their kids and dogs to play, little did we know how much the kids would love playing with these rocks (and I fear their house is now also full of rocks 😬😬) swipe through to see a before pic!

We had a lot of fun moving around things we found in the yard to create natural borders, and then we moved 10 tons of rocks 😅It was Sairah’s maybe second week working with us and she took on shoveling a lot of the gravel pile by herself which is beyond amazing ….. that’s like 20,000 pounds of rock … wrap your mind around that one 🙃

We’re now booking out for February 2026 (sorry January is already full!!), and it’s an especially good time to start thinking about your spring garden projects. We’re excited to plant even more native gardens and maybe a miyawaki forest or two in the new year …. As always, please reach out to schedule a consult via text or email! Info in our bio 🌱🌱🧱🧱💚

September/October 2025 ::::

posting this project in opposite order so you can see all the materials present in the yard, and how they were re-used to create several areas of use!

What started as a whole lot of bricks (and roots), now includes native plants, raised beds with flowers and herbs for the kid to plant in, and soft grass for the doggies to sun bathe on !

We reused some of the bricks to build the edge of the bed, and also incorporated a terracotta planter also found in the yard.

Special thanks to the clients who were a pleasure to work with! I always love building things with dogs and kids in mind, and this space has a little something for everyone 🌱🌱
