The power company monitors your smart meter so they know when it’s pulled . When we do a service you have to get a permit, inspection and schedule a disconnect with the power company. If you do not they will show and take your meter with them and could leave you without power for days .
Make sure your contractor is licensed, bonded and insured so you don’t have to sit in the dark

If your house was built between 1965 to 1975 there is a chance you have aluminum branch circuits running thru your home . Most houses now only have aluminum main power lines to the circuit panel , which is the standard. Aluminum branch circuits are dangerous and should be inspected and replaced.
