Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that your AC unit can actually freeze up when it's this hot outside in Texas?

As weird as that sounds, restricted airflow, a dirty filter, low refrigerant, or other system issues can cause the evaporator coil to get so cold that moisture freezes right onto it, and BAM frozen unit!

And another fun fact, turning the thermostat lower won't fix it, it will actually make it WORSE!

If you ever notice ice on your AC unit or suddenly have little to no airflow inside of your home, coming from your vents, your system may be frozen and need servicing.

Your AC can remove gallons of water every single day.

On a humid Texas day, your air conditioner can pull 5-20 gallons of water out of your home's air in a single day! That's why you have something called a condensate drain line!

Fun Fact Friday!

When it is 100+ degrees outside, it's actually completely normal for your air conditioner to keep your home cooled in or around the mid 70's degree range.

Your AC isn't designed to make your house ice cold on the hottest days of the year. It is designed to remove the heat and humidity while maintaining about a 20 degree temperature difference between the air going into your system and the air coming out of your vents.

So if it's scorching hot outside and your home is staying at or around 72-78 degrees, your system is likely doing exactly what it was built to do.

Before assuming your AC is broken:
-Check your air filter. Sometimes it could be as simple as changing the air filter to get better airflow and better air quality.
-Keep the blinds closed during the hottest parts of the day.
-Avoid constantly changing the thermostat.

If your home wont cool below the upper 70's, runs nonstop, or you're noticing warm air coming from your vents, it might be time for a professional opinion.

Fun Fact Friday!!

Are you planning a trip soon? If you are don't turn your AC's thermostat up super high or off completely. This is bad for your system because it allows the humidity inside your home to spike therefore creating an environment for mold, and mildew to thrive. Eventually this can lead to damaging wooded furniture, electronics and even getting where you can't see it inside your ducts. Which means you are now breathing in all those harmful spores.

Doing this forces your system to work double time when you come home from your trip to remove all the ambient heat and try to combat the humidity you had inside when you left. This prolonged strain on your unit can cause extra wear and tear on the system's compressor and components.

Instead of turning your system off, or turning it to a sweltering 90 degrees: Set your thermostat to mid to high 70's. Maintaining this moderate temperature ensures the system still cycles periodically to keep indoor humidity at a safe level.
