What Is a Door Interlock?

If you have a residential passenger elevator, one of its most important safety features is the door interlock.

A door interlock is designed to ensure the elevator cannot operate unless the landing door is fully closed and securely locked. It's a critical safety component that helps protect everyone using the elevator.

Over time, normal wear, coastal conditions, or accidental impacts can cause an interlock to become damaged or misaligned.

If you notice:
🔹 Your elevator won't move after closing the door
🔹 The door doesn't latch properly
🔹 The elevator operates intermittently
🔹 You have to "push" or "wiggle" the door before it works
..it's time to schedule a service call.

Ignoring these warning signs can eventually leave your elevator out of service.

Routine maintenance helps identify worn components early, keeping your elevator operating safely and reliably.

After spending yesterday inspecting boat lifts with our friends at Coastal Boat Lift, our furry visitor has apparently accepted a position with the Coastal Lifts & Elevators team. 👀😂
