Old Wood Building was started with the purpose of saving and restoring pioneer era buildings from the 1800's.

We specialize in methodically taking down and dismantling barns, cabins, and farmhouses with the goal to rebuild and give them a second life.

At some point, every stone gets a second look.
Not because something's wrong with it, but because there's usually a better way to use it. Turn it. Stand it up. Flip it over. One small change can make it the right piece instead of almost the right piece.
That's part of the job you don't see once the wall is finished.

Every stone on this project starts with a decision. Which face should be exposed? Does it fit the space? Does it need another cut before it belongs?
These photos show a little of that process. Looking at a pile of stone and knowing where each piece will work is part experience, part patience. By the time the wall is finished, most people never think about the decisions that got it there. We do.

Every stone starts out looking like it belongs somewhere else.
Before it ever becomes part of a wall, it gets turned, marked, trimmed, checked, and adjusted. Sometimes more than once. The goal isn't to force it into place. It's to shape it until it fits.
