I remember as a kid sitting in school, staring out the window at the construction crews working with equipment, and thinking it was sooo cool.
Today I'm working at a farm that also has a homeschooling program for kids, and I got to teach them about drainage, grading and how water flows. It was pretty cool to be on the opposite side of that experience. Maybe I had an impact on a future generation equipment operator!
If I had to guess... it would be the little boy in the gray t-shirt with a dump truck on it lol. Today was a good day!

This is not an ad. I'm genuinely concerned for many peoples homes, and I keep getting asked this.

Question: "My house doesn't have power. And no heat. And I'm not staying there. What do I do? Leave the faucets dripping or turn off the meter?? I keep hearing conflicting information!"

Answer: These incoming freezing temps are going to cause damage to many, many homes that don't have heat!

Some may be extensive. Even when you dripped your faucets. And you still have to hope the drains don't freeze. It depends on many factors within each different home.

Think of your plumbing system like a tree- with a trunk, branches and leaves. When you drip/run the water, there will still be branches of the system that is not moving water. And they will freeze much easier.

This is going to affect a lot of people. Some of the leaks may be small, and go unnoticed for months or years.
🚨If you don't have heat, my best advice is if you can afford it, HIRE A PLUMBER TO DO A FULL WINTERIZATION! This will save you! I don't offer this service unfortunately.

If you can't afford a plumber, my next best advice would be to mitigate the damage yourself.

Here are some tips!
*Turn off your meter.
*Disconnect & Drain washing machine, dishwasher, icemaker hose to the fridge.
*Drain the water heater.
*Open your spigot outside
*Open all faucets
*Empty water from all toilet tanks and the p-trap (shop vac!)
*Empty all p traps for all sinks and laundry. (Shop vac!)
*If you have an air compressor, hook it up and blow out all fixtures starting at the top floor and work your way down, one by one. Let the pressure build back up between cycling the fixtures.

I really hate to see more damage. I want to help people to protect themselves. I hope this advice saves at least one person a lot of headaches.

Stay warm, friends. ❤️

Not just obvious leaks, but there will be MANY people with slow or unseen leaks, that cause a LOT of damage later $$. Please check your meters! It's very easy.
