“Someday…” has arrived.

Whenever we drove past “The Scrapyard” (which is often if you live in East Nashville), we’d say, “I want to work on whatever gets built there.”

Our wish came true when we were invited to support the naming and branding of what is now known as “The East Bend.”

The name is simple and grounded, drawn from the natural curve of the river and the geography that defines the site. A simple typographic composition echoes the bend itself, creating a sense of calm and openness.

The design is intentionally quiet and peaceful leaving plenty of room for future collaborators to contribute to the exciting future of this special property.

Massive thanks to for connecting us to this project, to David Byerley, Sam Lingo, and Matt Rigsby for their close collaboration and trust, and to Paul Clements for his brilliant historic research into the land.

The Lanes is a new neighborhood in the heart of North Nashville, designed around a wellness-oriented lifestyle.

development team includes with The Tinsley Company, , , and , with marketing and sales led by and their team of skilled agents. We helped to lead naming and brand development for the project.

The name draws from the site’s history as a former bowling alley as well as the legacy of nearby TSU track and field from the nearby area, while also reflecting the experience of the neighborhood itself.

The visual identity takes a clean, contemporary approach. Neutral colors, open space, and subtle textures and shadows create an identity that feels calm, modern, and welcoming.

This week marks 5 years as a studio. Or, as we like to say, “5 years paying our own health insurance.” The truth is, we’ve been collaborating on creative projects from the moment we met 18 years ago. We share that because all the clients who came before we were “official” are officially part of this celebration, too.

This milestone still feels momentous. We had hoped to be able to support ourselves doing what we love. We had no idea we’d get to work on so many cool projects, meet so many wonderful clients, and have such a tremendous body of work in just 5 short years.

We cannot express our gratitude enough. It feels like there is so much more to say, but we’re trying not to be too sentimental on social media.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. We love you.

A handful of brand applications in action for our work with .bar . A simple illuminated “BAR” sign references the vernacular design of Japanese listening rooms. Touchpoints throughout the bar use variations on the logo to provide a casual appearance and variation that retains consistency.

Groceries Etc. is a vinyl listening room tucked away in the attic of a historic building in East Nashville.

We explored a wide range of directions, from classic to whimsical, crisp and modern, funky and friendly, before ultimately landing on a path directly inspired by the building’s own history. An old photograph revealed a hand-painted sign, which became our raw material. Our visual identity embraces the imperfections in the letterforms, lending warmth and personality. The new logo, arranged in a circular composition, echoes the form of a vinyl record and reinforces the idea of the space as a vinyl listening room.

The visual identity package for The Opaline at Artist Hill was built to match the vibrancy and vitality of its residents. With a punchy color palette and impossible-to-ignore patterns, our mantra was “there’s no reason affordable housing should be boring.”

These images showcase a few of the conceptual mockups for how the branding can extend throughout the physical space through property signage, way finding elements, and temporary construction wraps.

Thanks to the development team and for their trust and collaboration.

Welcome to The Opaline at Artist Hill, a new affordable and artist-centered community breaking ground this fall.

We’re proud to have created its name and visual identity for the development team at and the non profit .

The work takes cues from the gorgeous interior design package created by . The visual identity mixes sophisticated typography and photography with fresh colors and a mix of vibrant patterns. It’s all topped off by a deceptively simple ‘O’ icon we’ve unofficially dubbed “The Scribble”

Our designer knocked this one out of the park!

We’re proud to share our recent work refreshing the brand and visual identity for , an organization dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities through affordable housing, meaningful employment, and inclusive community living.

To celebrate 10 years of growth, Our Place asked us to create a fresh new look that captures the organization’s vibrant spirit. As they have expanded from 8 units in 2015 to more than 140 residents citywide today, this new branding represents their evolution with pops of color and diverse range of house-shaped forms that reflect the individuality, variety and charm embodied in their community of friends.

Major credit to for leading this project!

A few design elements and some brand language from our recent work with .nashville

The logo icon is built based on the 9-square grid, a very familiar design starting point for architects. The center of the letter N is carved out to create a set of brackets surrounding a perfect circle.

The icon can be read as a room in plan view, with a person at the center and passageways above and below. The circle recalls the dot stickers often used in community engagement meetings and design charrettes.

Most importantly, the brackets serve as a flexible framing device, an instantly recognizable vessel for a wide range of content.
