A small change can make a space work so much better.

At this Belle Meade property, we replaced a small tree and rock barrier with a paved walkway that makes entering and exiting the covered area easier. Laurel plantings along the parking lot provide a natural boundary while adding a little privacy.

It's a simple update, but one that makes the space more functional while keeping the surrounding landscape looking cohesive.

This summer has been a tough one for Middle Tennessee landscapes.

We’re seeing stress across properties we maintain, including thinning turf, damaged ornamental grasses, and decline in both newly planted and established trees, including Green Giant arborvitaes.

One thing we want our clients to know: **plant stress can happen even when irrigation is working properly.**

This has not been a normal growing season. Prolonged heat and drought have caused plants to lose moisture faster than their roots can replace it, and irrigation cannot fully make up for those extreme conditions.

We’re adjusting irrigation as much as possible and closely monitoring plant material to see what recovers as conditions improve. Some plants may recover, while others may ultimately need to be replaced.

If you’re seeing browning or decline on your property, don’t assume the plant is dead or that more water is necessarily the answer. Let us know what you’re seeing, and we’ll continue monitoring it with you.

Privacy doesn't have to mean putting up a wall.

The right combination of plants can create a sense of separation, soften views, and make outdoor spaces feel more comfortable without making the landscape feel closed in.
