Today was one of those days where I get to use the phrase I love so much, “it’s always cheaper to call us (or any licensed and insured electrician) the first time around!

While I hold actual handymen/contractors that do know what they’re doing in high regard. There are many that often go by the name of Jack of all trades but leave out the master of none part. While some things in electrical world are not rocket science it can be very dangerous if you don’t know what you are doing.

One of my clients today had a Jack of all trades install a car charger for them while not a difficult job can be dangerous if you don’t know wire sizing or breaker sizing. They way underrated the wire size which is a major fire hazard in itself but also had multiple splices in the line which is not ideal. One set of splices was inside a wall space unprotected waiting for a fire to happen the splices that got so hot that it melted wire and wire nuts altogether was luckily not the one in the wall space otherwise would have most certainly started a house fire. Then to make matters worse they installed breaker incorrectly not getting it seated tightly on bus bar of panel causing it to burn the bus bar this then resulting in customer having to change out panel. The money this person cost the customer alone is a shame but the real danger is almost starting a house fire and in worst case scenario hurting someone in the process.

Another customer called in a bad breaker and said their handyman stated the breaker was for sure bad. Upon arrival found a metal plug plate on a wooden surface lodged between appliance plug and receptacle it had been arcing out and tripping breaker. Breaker was working fine and doing its job!

Both scenarios could have very dangerous outcomes but homeowners were assured by others they knew what they were doing. All the while putting them at risk of losing their homes or worst case scenario a loved one.

Most any service electricians worth their salt care more about your safety then the money they make. While money can get tight and you want to save a few bucks hiring the jack of all trades I urge you to reconsider and call a reliable tradesman that is a true master of his trade. It’s always cheaper to do it the first time around then the second!

Had a client that their sub pump plug boxes were installed on a 2x4 stuck in the ground. After time since the 2x4 wasn’t green treated it rotted off and fell over. I came and installed 4x4 treated post and remounted plugs and boxes also had to replace one of the gfci plugs that had quit working most likely due to it resting in water after our rains.
