Got to throw my weight around at work… quite literally 😆 I had to rip up about 170 sq ft of glue down outdoor carpet last week. It was a complete PITA (and back and hands) but got ‘er done. Glad I do a bootcamp class 2x/week at Mecka Fitness Mecka Fitness to stay strong to be able to do this job and do things like wrestle ceiling panels up high and rip carpet off of concrete!

I’m going with the red team ❤️ Milwaukee Tool
I’ve been using the Ryobi tools that we bought 9 years ago when we moved to PGH just as a basic toolkit for our periodic DIY projects. I figured when one of my now well used tools died I’d take the chance to upgrade. That day came last week when my multitool/whizzy/oscillating saw decided to give up the ghost. My hubby is training to be a volunteer fireman and he was like “well most of the tools we have are Milwaukee, so if that’s what the firemen trust, then go for those.” (And I have a fair number of other red tools & toolbags & toolboxes)
Don’t come at me you black and gold fans, I’m not a native PGH’er. 😆

Another week, another hole to patch! This one is a little smaller for a friend/neighbor who had a plumbing leak. It turned out to that this wasn’t the first leak… the original plaster ceiling in here had already been cut in the same area, but instead of patching it, the entire ceiling was covered up in drywall board. So that made patching this up a bit easier. Hooray for no more ugly hole in the ceiling!

Some delicate demo and lots of mud just to make this wall look like there was never a window in it! Thanks to Kate from Babb & Mack for picking me to handle this part of their overall design effort. And looking forward to what the solid wood original casement windows can be transformed into for the next stage of their lives!

Mission accepted! I love a good project where I get to over think & overengineer things! 😆 AND I get to dig through my scrap wood pile too? Yes please!!! Half a sheet of 3/4” pine ply, 1/2” birch ply, primed 1x’s, 1/4” pine ply, and some bits and pieces later, and we have a useable shelf that blends in with the rest of the doors & drawers! I was also able to run an extension off another island outlet to put an outlet in here so that a new standalone microwave or other things can be plugged in. Thank you Sarah for letting me scratch my brain on creating this!

Finished this much needed bathroom paint job for a friend & neighbor!!! New lights were the finishing touch on giving this vintage bathroom a facelift to bring it out of its 1980’s era. There was a lot of wallpaper & paint scraping needed… but hopefully after using Roman 999 AND Kilz Mold & Mildew primers, and exterior semi gloss paints on both the ceiling & walls it will hold up for two more years of steamy teenager showers! (It’s a full bathroom in the middle of a junior beam bunker of a basement with NO exhaust fan and only a tiny 4”x8” window vent 😬 we’re working on a mitigation plan for that though!)

Finished a quick bathroom refresh for a friend & repeat customer! Some peeling paint over the shower escalated quickly, but got ‘er all patched up and a head to toe fresh paint job. In addition to painting I also swapped out the old light switch for a new duplex switch with a timer for the fan and a dimmer for the light… hopefully that will help keep the peeling paint from repeating even with two teen boys using this bathroom! 😬 I also moved the GFCI outlet off of the light switch to the old floor heat power source, so now the boys can charge their tooth brushes with the light off! 😆 Installing a new vanity light, medicine cabinet, wall cabinet, curved shower curtain rod, towel bar & paper holder completes this mini makeover!!!

Finished this adorable little powder room makeover yesterday, taking it from 80’s sugar sweet to moody & sophisticated! The client sourced all the fixtures & wallpaper herself, and it came together really well!!!

Mirror, light fixture & accessories: Anthropologie Home
Wallpaper: McGee & Co. (I like the name 😆😉)
Toilet: American Standard
Faucet & matching toilet handle: Kingston Brass
Plumbing work: Patrick David Plumbing

Had to do some very minor floor surgery in this powder room! I was pleasantly surprised the floor boards under the old toilet weren’t *that* bad, but there were still a couple of boards that were squishy/soft. I was able to score some leftover hardwood floor scraps from my old boss though, so I could patch in and replace the worst sections. After scuff sanding the whole floor I did do an overcoat of golden pecan stain which evened out the original floor and took the new boards one notch closer in color. Hopefully they’ll eventually age/oxidize to be closer in color, but then again they’re now mostly covered by the toilet anyways!!! 🤷🏻‍♀️
Full room reveal coming tomorrow!

Finally finished this painting job! Whole first floor… living room, dining room & kitchen… all of them needed various levels of patching, and then fresh paint on the ceiling, walls & trim. It’s definitely looking way sharper now! Between the ‘before’ and ‘after’ there was a lot of creative mud work to try and camouflage some of the patches on patches on patches that made up most of the walls and ceilings. 😬 But at least this layer of lipstick made the client happy!
