Job Description
Barefoot Design is a locally owned and operated, ecological land care and management company that has proudly been serving Southwest Ohio for 10+ years.
Our passion-filled team, collectively apply skills and knowledge in ecological landscaping, design and forest and habitat restoration to design, install and manage regenerative outdoor spaces. Innovation, attention to detail and a purpose of facilitating a thriving local ecology are at the core of what we do. As we continue to grow and expand this mission, we are seeking like-minded and experienced individuals to join our eco landscape division. This position requires an understanding of current landscape practices, an ability to work in a team setting, and an interest in moving beyond current cultural landscape models to build more sustainable and thriving landscapes.

Essential Duties:
Work with crew leader and other crew members in the installation of native/ sustainable landscape projects, hardscape installations, maintenance and spring/fall cleanups
Ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner
Providing feedback and relevant project details to crew leader
Work in and around various landscape settings/ecosystems
Plant Care: PROPER planting techniques, amending, pruning and diagnosing of plant health issues
Care for and operate chainsaws and other landscape power tools
Working outside, performing activities such as bending, kneeling, lifting (50 lbs on a regular basis), walking for long periods of time in all weather conditions and diverse terrain.

Skills/Qualifications:
Ability to perform all aforementioned essential duties
Understanding of current landscape practices
Ecologically-minded and a passionate learner
Ability to creatively and practically solve problems in the field
Ability to contribute feedback and solutions in the field
Consistent ability to interact with co-workers, clients and community in a professional and respectful manner
Able to work both independently and with a diverse team
General plant knowledge
Minimum of 1yr experience in the landscaping industry
Experience with a truck and trailer/ dump trailer a plus

The Crew Leader will report to the Lead Designer and CEO.

Job Overview:
Barefoot Design is an ecological oriented company who strives towards building sustainable environments outdoors and for its employees. A successful Crew Leader will instill self worth and enjoyment into the crew members while still driving a highly productive team. Barefoot Design’s home base is located at one of Ohio’s first agri communities - Aberlin Springs, which reflects the company’s mission of building a regenerative culture for the outdoors and the community that is a part of it.

Compensation:
- Starting $15-$18/ hr.
- Membership in Barefoot Designs weekly CSA program
- Monday - Friday 35-45 hrs/wk depending on season

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Takes responsibility to ensure all work is being performed to contract specifications, stays in budget, and is of high quality
- Provide excellent, on-site relations and communications with clients, crew members, and/or subcontractors
- Delegate tasks in order of importance to progress projects in a timely fashion
- Foster an environment where safety is our most important job
- Provide and enforce a positive image of our company at all times
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education level:
- High school diploma/GED
- 2 or 4 year degree in horticulture or any related field (preferred)

Experience:
- Minimum of two years in the landscape industry
- Management (preferred)

Specific skills:
- Personnel management
- Time management
- Basic knowledge of common plants
- Plant pruning
- Can operate power equipment (eg. hedgers, blower, string weeder, etc.)
- Can communicate with clients and coworkers effectively
- Experience with truck and trailer

Personal characteristics:
- Enthusiastic about producing high quality work
- Eye for fine details
- People skills

Licenses:
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record

Physical abilities:
- Must be comfortable working Outside
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to carry out daily physical motion activities like squatting, bending, lifting, carrying, etc.
- Can lead by example and set the pace of work
- Mechanically Inclined is a plus

The farmer will be a team player in creating efficient and regenerative agriculture systems and will work cooperatively to reach higher company goals beyond oneself. The farm is located at one of Ohio’s first agricommunities - Aberlin Springs, and our primary goal on the farm is to support all of its community members through CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). An applicant would be driven by and passionate about permaculture and sustainability practices.
