Most contractors won’t bring this up. So I will.
Every concrete slab has moisture in it. You can’t see it. You can’t feel it. But it’s there. And over time it moves upward looking for somewhere to go.
A moisture barrier coat handles that. But here’s what nobody talks about. That barrier needs time to cure before anything goes on top of it. When you’re moving fast that window gets tight. And when flake goes into a barrier that hasn’t fully cured there’s a chance you end up with gaps.
Now plenty of floors installed that way hold up just fine. But plenty don’t. And the ones that don’t start bubbling and lifting and there is nothing you can do about it at that point except start over.
This is why I recommend a moisture barrier on every single install regardless of how the slab looks that day. Because moisture conditions change. Seasons change. And your floor should be protected for all of it.
Don’t gamble on maybe when you’re spending five thousand dollars.
