New partnership, new project, same obsession with great outdoor living. Teaming up with on a historic Ridgewood home that’s about to level up: pool, patios, sports court, and gardens for days.

Old bones, fresh vision. This one’s going to be fun.

Some homes already have soul — they just need the right team to help it shine. This nighttime shot captures the refreshed front entrance we designed, brought to life with Yellow Wagon Landscaping’s expert installation of Techo‑Bloc walls and steps. Thoughtful design, skilled partners, and a home that now feels complete.

Four sketches, one big shift.
This Phillipsburg property sits right across from the Delaware River and is wrapped in farmland, but step into the backyard and you’d never guess it. We’re taking a river‑loving family and turning them into a full‑blown pool family — with a covered deck, patio, and gathering spaces designed for the kind of crowds that show up hungry and stay past sunset.

A rural backdrop, a river at the front door, and now a backyard built for large, large gatherings.
Root is shaping the next chapter — one sketch at a time.

Nothing beats seeing a design come alive in full summer bloom — layers filling in, textures doing their thing, and the whole space settling into that effortless rhythm we aim for on every project.

Summer is around the corner, and these photos are a preview of the color, structure, and life that’s about to return.

Good design grows with you.
Good planting rewards patience.
And a well‑built landscape always pays you back in July.

Small but mighty — and built to live large.

Last year’s patio upgrade was a reminder that you don’t need acres to create a full outdoor experience. With a tight footprint and a smart plan, this space now carries everything:
• a warm deck transition
• a custom BBQ island
• a custom TV cabinet
• a fire pit zone
• and of course, an upgraded patio that ties it all together

When every inch works, the whole space feels bigger, calmer, and more intentional. That’s the power of good design — it makes even the smallest corners feel like they were always meant to be lived in.

At Root, this is our favorite moment of the year — when the work beneath the surface finally says hello. Bulbs breaking through, color returning, and the promise of a new season taking shape.

Here’s to longer days, warmer light, and landscapes coming back to life.
Spring has officially arrived.

At Root, no project is too small for us to make an impact. We work with anyone who understands the power a landscape architect brings: clarity, intention, and a design that elevates the architecture instead of competing with it.

Every home has potential. Sometimes it just needs the right eyes on it. Swipe to see this planting design.

🏛️ If these steps could talk…
Yes—that is THE country club. The one where a certain Oscar‑winning actor attempted the world’s slowest, most chaotic descent to his car.

Today, we’re giving this iconic backdrop a very different kind of makeover. Root Landscape Architecture is proposing a landscape that elevates the arrival experience instead of… well… crawling down it.

Our rendering reimagines the grounds with clean lines, structured planting, and a sense of order that the original scene famously lacked. It’s a fun reminder that good design can transform even the most legendary locations—turning cinematic chaos into calm, intentional space.

Here’s to rewriting the scene, one thoughtful detail at a time.

❄️➡️☀️ From blizzard mode to beach mode — mentally, at least.

While the Jersey Shore is getting buried in snow today, we’re taking a quick walk through one of our favorite completed projects in Point Pleasant. A pool and pergola overlooking the inlet… not a snowflake in sight… just clean lines, coastal air, and the kind of summer rhythm we’re all craving right now.

Designing spaces like this is a reminder that warmer days always come back — and when they do, they should feel effortless, inviting, and exactly right for their place.

Until then, stay warm. We’ll be over here dreaming of the inlet.

✨ What is “good design”?

It’s subjective, sure—but more often than not, you feel it before you define it. Good design is when the pieces fall into place. When the choices support the architecture instead of competing with it. When the exterior and interior speak the same language.

This renovated front entrance is a perfect example. The landscape settles naturally into the architecture, reinforcing the lines and materials of the home. The low‑voltage lighting picks up where the interior lighting leaves off, creating a rhythm that feels intentional, not forced.

When everything works together, you don’t have to explain it. Good design just makes sense.
