New Urbanism is an urban planning and design movement that promotes compact, walkable, mixed-use communities as an alternative to car-dependent suburban sprawl. It emphasizes human-scale neighborhoods with diverse housing options, nearby shops and services, pedestrian-friendly streets, and integrated public spaces to foster community, reduce environmental impact, and improve quality of life.
A key principle of New Urbanism is housing diversity—integrating a range of housing types to create inclusive, economically vibrant neighborhoods rather than uniform single-use zones.
