My lemon cuckoo niederrheiners are so big and fluffy! At around 4-5 weeks you can tell them apart because the roosters are lighter than the hens and start getting their combs. So that was a wonderful surprise. And the roosters are super friendly which I love because most of my roosters are very standoffish. New breeds are fun!

For some reason, I love having my breeds all separated and in their own little spaces. It seems so organized and well planned.
I tried putting the younger birds in with the older birds, to no avail. The get picked on too much still. I will grow them out another 2 weeks and sneak them in at night and see how they do.
I just really want them all where they are supposed to be and it’s making me a bit nuts!🙄
But soon they will all be organized in their correct coops and hopefully laying. I’m so excited to start breeding and hatching eggs and learning all I can! New projects are so fun!🥰
Hope everyone is having a lovely day!

Have some lovely boys growing out. My vorwerk and lemon Owlbeards Roos are fabulous. And my white ameruacana looks pretty good too. But my ermine roo looks to have the tiniest bit of cross beak, which sucks. I just culled my other ermine for cross beak and this one was my backup. So now I either have to try and find a replacement somewhere or just breed my black hens to my white roo and leave out the ermine hens for now. I only have 2 black hens, so not using the 5 ermine will greatly reduce the amount of eggs I will be getting and the project will take that much longer.
I’ve had this issue with my Owlbeards as well.
Trying to keep only the very best to make sure the flock is healthy makes the process almost excruciating. And doing it with 4 breeds all at once seems a little crazy to me now. But I will keep plugging along and hopefully I can have some semblance of a breeding program up and running by next fall. And have healthy birds that produce great offspring.

October is going to have so many wonderful things in it!
My daughter helped pay for my husband and I to spend a night in Atlanta and go to the Georgia Aquarium. I love sharks, but all fish are just something I love. It was a great way to start the month.
In just over a week, I will be breeding 5 does. I am so excited for these litters. I’m finally making headway in the right direction to improve my lines. I will be breeding:

Bumbalough Hollow Morokei x Bumbalough Hollow Serana
Bumbalough Hollow Morokei x RZ Ranch Rabbitry Hershey Kiss
Harbor Hollow Skittles x MR Morganna
MR Leonidas x MR Meridia
MR Leonidas x MR Tilly

I’m hoping to get some nice tris and brindles from 2 of the pairings. Some blacks and chocolates from Kisses litter, and determined if my buck carries dd and hopefully get some lilacs from him and Serana. And Tilly is an older doe I am breeding in case I need a surrogate because Morganna rejected her last litter.

Also this month, my mom and oldest son are coming to visit for 5 or so days. Always excited to see both of them.

And at the end of the month I am having a long awaited dental surgery and having all my teeth pulled to get dentures. The bottom dentures will have posts that they snap to, the top will just be normal dentures. I’ve had bad teeth pretty much all my life and I am excited to finally be done with the pain and all that comes with it.

Last but not least, chicken updates!
My chickens are growing out nicely and I will have a better idea of what I will be able to add to my breeding program and what will be removed in another 2 months or so.
I have a nice Ermine rooster, 4 Ermine hens and 2 black hens for that breeding program.

I have a rooster and 1 hen for my Vorwerks right now. But I 7 chicks growing out right now, 3 Roos and 4 hens, so fingers crossed the hens will be healthy and I get a nice back up roo.

I currently have 1 roo and 2 hens for my lemon owlbeard program, and 2 growouts that I should be able to tell the s*x in another month or so.

And lastly, I have my lemon cuckoo niederrheiner growouts. I have 7 total, 3 Roos and 4 hens, so hopefully off to a good start with them. We will be growing these out and using them for a meat breed starting next spring.

I don’t post nearly enough, but am hoping to be more involved on here so I can show off my rabbits and chickens. I’m excited to have the opportunity to raise both of these amazing animals and hope I can do all the breeds justice. Thank you if you read all of this, my first novela has officially been completed!😬

Have a fabulous day and lovely fall month!
