🔧 iFix Friday Tip: Emergency SOS is built into every iPhone. Let's make sure it's turned on! Open Settings → Emergency SOS. Enable 'Call with Hold and Release' or 'Call with 5 Button Presses.' Also, add your Medical ID in the Health app so first responders can access it from your lock screen. Be sure to set it up for yourself and your family. Need more support? Send me a message.

Just a friendly reminder that this event is coming up next Thursday, June 4th!

If you have a kid who plays Roblox (or has been asking to), this one's for you. We'll talk about what makes Roblox different from other video games, the real risks parents should know about (chat safety, in-app purchases, inappropriate content), and I'll do a live walkthrough of Roblox's parental controls so you leave with practical tools, not just information.

Space is limited and we do have a registration link, which is in the comments. Hope to see some familiar faces there!

If you saw my post earlier this week about the Roblox parent presentation at Ventress Memorial Library on June 4th, this one goes hand in hand with it. Knowing what your kids are doing online is one piece of the puzzle. The other piece is making sure their devices are actually set up to support the boundaries you want. Apple's Screen Time feature is one of the most powerful parenting tools I know of, and most families have never opened it. App limits, content filters, downtime schedules, the ability to approve or block apps before they're ever downloaded. All of it is built right into iOS. During a 90-minute visit I help parents get everything configured in a way that actually makes sense for their family. If you have kids with Apple devices and you've been meaning to get this sorted, send me a message.

This week's iFix Friday tip is a little different.

The fix? Close the knowledge gap if you have a kid who plays Roblox and you've ever thought "I should probably know more about this game."

On June 4th I'm hosting a free parent presentation at Ventress Memorial Library in Marshfield — covering how Roblox actually works, what the real risks are, and how to set up parental controls that do something. Space is limited and registration is open now. Link in the comments.

Here's something I hear constantly on the South Shore: "My battery just doesn't last like it used to." And while battery health does degrade over time, that's usually only part of the story. The bigger culprit is almost always settings. Background App Refresh quietly running for dozens of apps. Location services set to Always for things that don't need it. Push email pinging a server every few minutes. A display brightness that's higher than it needs to be. None of these feel significant on their own, but together they drain your battery faster than you'd expect. During my 90-minute session I go through all of it, make the right adjustments for how you actually use your phone, and leave you with a device that gets noticeably more out of every charge. Send me a message.

iFix Friday Tip of the Week: Focus Mode is one of those iPhone features that sounds complicated but is actually pretty simple once someone walks you through it. Here's the idea. Different parts of your day have different needs. At work, you want to hear from colleagues but not get pinged by every app on your phone. At home in the evening, you want to be present with your family without your phone constantly pulling your attention. Focus Mode lets you create a set of customizable rules for each of those situations. You decide who can reach you, which apps are allowed to notify you, and your iPhone has the option to switch automatically based on the time, your location, or what app you open. Your phone starts working around your life instead of the other way around. Go to Settings → Focus to explore what's already there. Send me a message if you want a hand getting it configured.

If your Wi-Fi feels slow, before you call your internet provider or think about upgrading your plan, let me take a look at your setup. In my experience visiting homes across the South Shore, slow Wi-Fi is almost never about the speed you're paying for. It's about where your router is, how your network is configured, how many devices are connected, and whether your equipment is actually up to the job. During a 90-minute visit I can diagnose what's going on and make real changes that improve your speeds and coverage throughout your home. I've helped many Apple users in this area with exactly this. Send me a message.

iFix Friday Tip: You don't have to mute your whole phone just because one group chat won't stop. Open the Messages thread > tap the name at the top > toggle on 'Hide Alerts' > ✅. That conversation goes quiet. You still get the messages, you just won't be pinged every time. 😄

Here's something I see on almost every visit across the South Shore. A device that's been ignoring update notifications for months. It might not seem like a big deal but over time it compounds. Security vulnerabilities pile up, apps start behaving strangely, features stop working the way they should, and performance takes a real hit. Software updates exist for a reason, and keeping up with them is one of the simplest things you can do to protect your device and keep it running well. During my 90-minute session I make sure every device is fully up to date and set up to stay that way automatically. No more remind me later. Send me a message.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Most people don't think about tech when they think about sustainability, but e-waste is one of the fastest growing environmental problems in the world. Manufacturing a single smartphone generates a significant carbon footprint before it ever reaches your hands. The most impactful thing you can do is keep the device you already own running as long as possible. That's exactly what I help people do. After a 90-minute session, slow devices run faster, batteries last longer, and people walk away with a machine that feels new without buying anything new. I've helped hundreds of Apple users across the South Shore do this. This Earth Day, send me a message before you think about replacing anything. Even if it's just for quick advice. 💚

I love simplifying iCloud for people. It's genuinely one of my favorite things to do on a visit because the payoff is so clear. After my 90-minute session, your photos are on every device, your backups are running automatically, your storage makes sense, and everything is talking to everything the way Apple intended. I've helped hundreds of Apple users across the South Shore get this right, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing your photos and data are actually protected is worth every minute. If you want yours done right, send me a message. I come to you.
