Resort-style pool design starts with how people will use the space.

Give chaise lounges room to breathe. Add a table beside every seat. Place shade where the sun actually hits, create a separate lounge area, and make the tanning ledge feel intentional with in-pool seating.

Small functional details are what make a poolside space feel easy all day.

Save this for your backyard pool plan.

Ground covers may sit low, but they do a surprising amount of work.

They soften hardscape, connect planting areas, support pollinators, suppress weeds, and give a landscape a more finished appearance.

For Sonoran Desert gardens, we like plants such as Pink Gaura, Artemisia ‘Powis Castle,’ Pink Muhly Grass, and Baja Fairy Duster for movement, texture, and long seasonal interest.

Save this planting list for later.

Pink Gaura (Gaura lindheimeri), often known by its whimsical common name “Whirling Butterflies” (with popular pink cultivars like Siskiyou Pink), is a resilient, sun-loving perennial prized for its long blooming season and dancing, butterfly-like flowers.

The most memorable summer gatherings feel effortless. That ease is almost always the result of thoughtful design.

When an outdoor space is set up well, guests move naturally between moments — dinner at a beautifully set table, conversation around the grill, an afternoon by the pool, an evening that stretches late around the fire. The environment supports it all without anyone having to think about it.
It starts with a dining table that anchors the space and invites people to linger. It builds through comfortable lounge seating, layered with textiles and anchored by an outdoor rug that makes the space feel like a room. Shade that keeps the afternoon comfortable. Poolside chaises that bring a resort quality to the backyard. And a fire pit that gives the evening somewhere to land.
Each element plays a role. Together they create the kind of space where people don’t want to leave — and where summer traditions actually take shape.

Shop everything you need to build it. And tell us in the comments — what’s the one element that makes or breaks your outdoor entertaining setup?

My love for gardening started as a kid. I have planted these grapes years ago in my front courtyard but each time they would get close to fruition the fruit part would die.
So I’m really excited this year to have over 12 bunches of grapes:)

That sound. 🪴

Real Italian terracotta sounds different. Feels different. There’s a reason this is our #1 and it’s not just how it looks.
Handcrafted in Italy. Built to last decades. Gets better every single season.
