There are things we often overlook. Stepping out of the shower or bath while wet can lead to problems for the floor below, often without us realizing it. This homeowner had crumbling grout in front of their shower, and each time they stepped out, water seeped down to the ceiling of the main floor. We had to scrape off the old knockdown texture and reapply it. Ultimately, the new knockdown ceiling texture we installed on the main level looks fantastic. It's surprising how something seemingly minor can have such a significant impact.

Water follows the path of least resistance, and even a small hole can lead to significant issues. In this project, we removed the decayed chimney chase framing and replaced the damaged roof decking. We then installed a weather-resistant barrier (WRB) and LP siding on the exterior. Additionally, the entire exterior was repainted. In the end, the house looked fresh and appealing, enhancing its curb appeal and overall value.

For this project, we completed the basement renovation of a Minneapolis home built in 1912. Older homes come with their own set of challenges, such as low ceiling heights, limited headroom at the stairs, narrow hallways, outdated plumbing, and some framing that needed to be corrected. However, finishing this basement has not only enhanced the home’s value but also added unique character. This space is versatile and can be used for a variety of purposes. It’s wonderful to see the homeowners finally enjoying this part of their home.

Trusting someone’s word is tough, especially when it comes to big decisions like buying a home. Here’s a personal example of why it’s so important to dig deep and ask thorough questions. Don’t be afraid to be direct — you’re not being invasive or pushy, you're protecting your future!

My wife and I had a gut feeling that the answers we were getting weren't fully honest during our home purchase. We asked key questions about the exterior and the marks on the towers, but we were reassured everything was fine. Fast forward to discovering woodpecker damage (see the pics above!) that was hidden behind those “touch-ups.”

We chose not to push further at the time, but looking back, we wish we had trusted our instincts. The lesson here? Being thorough and direct can save you thousands in the long run.

And if you're dealing with woodpecker damage on cedar siding, take it from us: go with James Hardie Board — they won't touch it!
