From a bouncy floor to a solid, safer-feeling home.

This homeowner originally contacted us because the floor above the basement felt bouncy and unstable.

We raised and supported the existing floor system, installed new structural framing, and reinforced the area while working around the existing plumbing, electrical and ductwork.

By the end of the repair, the homeowner said that he finally felt safe walking through his house.

During the final stage of the work, active termite damage was also uncovered in one of the existing wood members. Once removed, the tunneling and termites inside were clearly visible.

The affected area was left open so the termite issue can be addressed before the final joist is installed.

Structural repair work often reveals conditions that were hidden until the framing is opened up — and this project was a good example of that.

A lot of homeowners don’t realize termites can be small, pale/white insects and that serious damage can be hidden inside wood until it’s opened up.

We recently uncovered active termite damage during a structural framing repair. Once the wood was removed, you could clearly see the tunneling and the termites inside.

This is a good reminder that hidden conditions can exist even when everything looks fine from the outside.

If you suspect damaged wood or insect activity, it’s important to have it evaluated before closing the area back up.

MKG Framing LLC is now an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm under the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule.

This certification applies to renovation, repair, and painting work that may disturb lead-based paint in homes and child-occupied facilities built before 1978.

For us, it’s another step in making sure the framing and repair work we perform in older homes is handled with the proper lead-safe practices when required.

Basement Framing + New Exterior Door

Basement framing project completed in Amherst, NH.

For this project, we framed a new room in the basement and converted an existing basement window opening into a new exterior door opening. The work included reframing the exterior wall, installing the new door, weatherproofing the opening, and reinstalling the exterior siding around the new entrance.

A relatively small project that made a significant change to how the space can be used and accessed.

The homeowners were very happy with the completed work, and we appreciate them choosing MKG Framing LLC for their project.

Matt has completed a 3-PDH course in Forensic Structural Inspections: Examination, Diagnosis, and Remedy for Building Structures.

The course focused on how structural issues are investigated, documented, and evaluated to better understand the cause of building damage and deterioration.

He continues to invest in education that helps strengthen his understanding of existing structures and structural repair work.

Opening up this living space with a new structural beam.

The homeowners completed the drywall demolition and prep before we arrived. We then temporarily supported the structure, removed the existing wall framing and installed the new beam to create the open span between the rooms.

This homeowner contacted us because the floor above had noticeable bounce and he wanted the framing reinforced.

Matt sistered 15 existing floor joists and added solid blocking throughout the repaired area to strengthen and stiffen the floor system.

The work was completed from the basement while working around the existing plumbing, electrical and mechanical lines.

Turning an unfinished attic into an office/media room.

Matt completed this two-day framing project today, that included 4’ knee walls, full-height walls around the stair opening, and custom framing around the existing HVAC equipment and ductwork.

Attic framing involves a lot more than what shows in the finished photos. Much of the time goes into layout, measuring, working with roof slopes, and making individual cuts so everything fits the existing structure correctly.

Completed in two days, and the homeowners are now one step closer to turning this attic into a finished office and media space.

This project included rough framing for a new 28’ × 26’ garage with a bonus room above, an attached breezeway, stairs, interior partitions, roof framing and sheathing, house wrap, and related framing details.

Another basement framing project completed in one day.

This project included rigid foam insulation along the foundation walls, framing the new basement room, storage and utility closet framing, door openings, and framing around the existing basement conditions.
