Martin and Heather are headed to the American Subcontractors Association’s SUBExcel National Convention today and tomorrow!

We’re proud to represent Press Mechanical Contractors and the subcontractor community across Maryland, D.C., Virginia, and nationally. We are incredibly humbled and honored to share that Press Mechanical Contractors has been named Subcontractor of the Year at the ABC Virginia Chapter & Associated Builders and Contractors of Metro Washington Excellence in Construction Awards! 🏆

We were up against some incredible and well-respected subcontractors, so this recognition means even more to our team.

What makes it especially meaningful? This is our second Subcontractor of the Year award in the last year, following our Subcontractor of the Year recognition from American Subcontractors Association of Metro Washington. We must be doing something right!

Strong crews look out for each other.

In construction, we talk about teamwork every day. We rely on each other to work safely, solve problems, meet deadlines, and get everyone home at the end of the day.

That same teamwork needs to extend beyond the work itself.

Sometimes looking out for your crew means noticing when someone has gotten quieter. Asking how things are going outside of work. Sitting with someone for a few extra minutes. Or simply saying, “I’m here if you need me.”

You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need to have the answers. You just need to care enough to start the conversation.

Because a strong crew isn’t just a group of people who work well together. It’s a group of people who look out for one another.

At Press Mechanical, we build a lot of things—but the people standing beside us will always matter more than the project in front of us.

Check on your crew. Start the conversation. Look out for each other.

It’s OK to not be OK.

Those words matter—especially in an industry where being tough, pushing through, and getting the job done are often just part of the culture.

But strength isn’t pretending everything is fine when it isn’t.

Strength can be telling someone you’re struggling. It can be asking for help. And sometimes, it’s simply being the coworker who notices when someone else isn’t themselves and takes the time to ask, “Are you really okay?”

Mental health doesn’t stop when we put on a hard hat and walk onto a jobsite. The people we work beside every day may be carrying things we know nothing about.

So talk about how you’re feeling. Support your coworkers. Reach out when you need help. And remind the people around you that they are not alone.

At Press Mechanical, looking out for each other is part of safety, too.

In construction, we’re taught to solve problems. To keep moving. To get the job done.

But some problems aren’t meant to be handled alone.

As we continue Construction Su***de Prevention Week, we want to make one thing clear: help is always available.

Whether it’s you, someone on your crew, a coworker, or a friend who is struggling, there are people ready to listen and resources designed to help. Reaching out isn’t weakness. Sometimes it’s the strongest thing a person can do.

And you don’t have to wait until someone is in crisis to start the conversation. Check in. Ask twice. Listen. Know where to point someone when they need more help.

At Press Mechanical, safety has to mean more than getting everyone home physically safe at the end of the day. It means looking out for the whole person underneath the hard hat.

One of the most important things we can do for each other is pay attention.

Someone who is struggling may never come out and say, “I need help.” Sometimes it shows up differently—a change in attitude, pulling away from the crew, losing interest in things they normally enjoy, changes in sleep, increased substance use, or simply not acting like themselves.

In construction, we spend a lot of time working side by side. We know our people. We notice when someone who normally jokes around gets quiet. We notice when someone starts isolating themselves. We notice when something just seems off.

Don’t ignore that feeling.

You don’t need to be a mental health professional to check on someone. You just need to be willing to ask a question—and take the time to listen to the answer.

See a change. Say something.

A conversation may feel small in the moment, but to the person who needs it, it could mean everything.
