I wish I could tell you this was something I put together as a joke… but this is exactly how I found it

The condenser fan motor that had previously been installed was too large for the unit. Instead of installing the correct motor, the top grille had been left raised several inches.

How was it held up?

Rocks.

Zip ties.

The rocks were zip tied to the cabinet to keep the fan from hitting the compressor underneath.

Think about that for a second.

This isn’t just a workmanship issue—it created a large opening around a spinning condenser fan. Thankfully, no curious child or pet found that opening before it was corrected.

This is why the lowest price isn’t always the best value. The goal isn’t just to get the equipment running—it’s to make sure it’s repaired safely and correctly.

Customer experienced simultaneous failures of both existing HVAC systems, each over 20 years old. Due to the age and condition of the equipment, replacement was recommended and approved. Installed new systems, completed startup and performance testing, and verified proper operation. Both systems are now back up and running, restoring reliable heating and cooling to the home.

I realize I’m a couple weeks late posting this… and after the stretch of 90°+ weather we’ve had, this probably won’t come as a surprise.

Nobody calls their HVAC company on a perfect 75° day to say, “My AC just quit.”

The hotter it gets, the more emergency calls pile up. That’s why I always encourage customers to schedule maintenance early in the season. It gives you more flexibility, a better chance of avoiding delays, and the opportunity to catch small issues before they become big ones.

And if your HVAC company shows up late or has to reschedule during a heat wave, there’s a good chance they’re helping a family with no cooling at all.

A little planning in the spring can save a lot of frustration in the summer.

After evaluating the situation, we discovered an issue related to their thermostat coordination with a 2-zone zoning system. The challenge lay in incorrect wiring between the upstairs zone thermostat and the control for that specific zone. Our solution involved addressing the wiring snag, guiding it to proper functionality. This allowed the client to efficiently manage the upstairs climate, restoring their comfort. A few weeks ago, we replaced a failed blower motor using an OEM direct replacement part. I prefer OEM components because, in my experience, they tend to offer the best fit, performance, and reliability.

This week, that motor failed unexpectedly.

The customer didn’t pay another diagnostic fee. They didn’t pay for another repair. We returned promptly, replaced the defective part under warranty, and made sure everything was operating properly before we left.

No one likes callbacks, but they happen—even with quality parts. What matters is standing behind your work and taking care of your customers when they do.

Tonight’s call is exactly why I stress the importance of maintenance. A clogged drain may seem like a minor issue, but it left this family’s upstairs bedrooms sitting at 88°. We were able to get them taken care of and restore cooling the same evening. The little things matter, and routine maintenance can often prevent those “why did it quit tonight?” moments.
