Household hazardous waste collection scheduled for western Illinois
The Illinois EPA will hold a Household Hazardous Waste collection in Quincy.
It’s scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, at the Adams County Highway Department.
It’s one of eight single-day collection events scheduled for this fall, and the only one in western Illinois.
Registration is required (so they can avoid a back-up of vehicles) and can be done through the Adams County Health Department.
Items that will be accepted include chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, thinners, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, w**d killers, insecticides, and pesticides. Fluorescent and other high-intensity discharge lamps will also be accepted.
Items that won’t be accepted include latex paint, explosives, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, agricultural chemicals, and business wastes.
A complete list of wastes that are and are not accepted is available from the Illinois EPA.

WGEM reported this morning that the dedication is today, but it is not until September 4th.

Please note the new, new date! September 4th would have been Bill’s 93rd birthday. What a great day to celebrate his legacy!

Chandler Park grant hearing scheduled in Macomb

The Macomb city council will hold a public hearing on its plan to apply for a state grant for the Chandler Park renovation project.

The hearing will begin at 5:15 p.m. tonight, Monday, Aug. 24 at city hall.

There will be a public comment period for citizens to address the grant application.

Afterward, the city council will be asked to give the administration the go-ahead to apply for the funding.

The city has said the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant is needed to help fund the project. The Chandler Park Master Plan unveiled in Dec. 2024 estimated the work would cost $3.2 million.

Mayor Mike Inman has said the city would be eligible for up to $600,000 in OSLAD funding for the project.

Please join us for the ribbon cutting! This project has been years in the planning and funding and will truly be a heartwarming experience to honor a man so important to the history of Macomb. Macomb Beautiful has planted a small plot with flowers at the entrance and has provided the planting of three trees using money from the Madge Howe Cooper memorial fund.

Emily has participated in our Pollinator Pocket Garden program and proudly shows off the pollinator garden that she has created. She chose to fence in the space but you can see the plants peaking through and by summer's end will tower above. We love having another space with our goal to create a pollinator byway going through Macomb. Thanks Emily!
