Dead trees don’t always come down the way you’d expect.

This massive dead pine had been growing backwards and was leaning over two homes, making it a serious hazard. The tree was far too dead and brittle to climb safely, so instead of putting a climber at risk, we used an advanced felling technique.

We installed a basal anchor and pulled the tree over under controlled tension. This method allowed us to keep a rope system in the tree the entire time, so even if the trunk or top broke out unexpectedly—as dead pines often do—we maintained control throughout the removal.

Every tree requires a different approach. Sometimes the safest option isn’t climbing—it’s knowing when to use the right equipment and the right techniques to protect people, homes, and our crew.

Storms don’t always bring trees down right away. Sometimes they leave behind hidden hazards that are just waiting for the next strong wind.

This mulberry tree had a massive breakout, most likely caused by a heavy storm. The broken limb was hanging directly over the customer’s roof and a power line. From the ground, it might have looked like it was still attached well enough—but in reality, it was one gust away from causing serious damage.

Situations like this are why it’s so important to have storm-damaged trees inspected by someone who understands how wood fails and how to remove hazardous limbs safely. Every cut has to be planned to keep the limb under control and protect the home, utilities, and everyone on the ground.

There’s nothing more satisfying than bringing a customer’s vision to life.

This homeowner told us she’d been asking different companies for years to trim her trees and shrubs a certain way, but nobody ever quite understood what she was looking for. We took the time to listen, understand her goals, and make sure she got exactly what she had been envisioning. Seeing how happy she was with the final result made the job that much more rewarding.

For this project, we removed smaller shrubs from the flower beds to open everything up, carefully shaped the holly bushes to give them a clean, natural look, performed root crown excavations on two young red oak trees, and finished the landscape with fresh mulch.

Root crown excavations are one of the best investments you can make in a young tree. Trees aren’t meant to have their trunks buried under soil or mulch. The root flare should always be visible. When it’s covered, it can lead to decay, disease, and poor root development. We also removed girdling roots—roots that grow around the trunk instead of away from it. Left alone, they can slowly choke the tree as it grows, reducing its health and shortening its lifespan.

Taking care of these problems early gives young trees the best chance to grow strong, healthy, and beautiful for decades to come.

Tree felling isn’t about making a tree fall—it’s about controlling how it falls.

In this video, you’ll see that after I made the back cut, the tree didn’t immediately commit to the fall. It stayed where it was until I intentionally cut more of the hinge wood. That wasn’t by chance, and it certainly isn’t something that’s guaranteed on every tree. It was the result of reading the tree, understanding its lean, and using proper felling technique to stay in control for as long as possible.

Every tree is different. Species, weight distribution, defects, wind, and lean all play a role, which is why experience matters. That’s why we never rush the process. Every cut has a purpose, and our goal is always to maintain control from the first saw cut to the moment the tree is safely on the ground.

This limb was suspended directly over the roof, leaving no room for error. Using cradle rigging, we were able to fully support the weight of the limb, control its movement from start to finish, and safely lower it to the ground without causing damage to the home below.
