From Painting to Wall
Each mural begins as an original painting created specifically for the site.
Working from the architecture, environment, and desired palette, I create a custom pigment painting that establishes the composition, color relationships, movement, density, and overall feeling of the work.
That painting becomes the foundation for the mural. Rather than enlarging it mechanically, I translate its gestures and relationships to the architecture—responding to scale, openings, corners, material, light, and the way the building is experienced in space.
The result is a mural that retains the intimacy and spontaneity of the original artwork while becoming completely site-specific.
The original painting then remains with the client as part of the commission: a companion artwork and physical origin of the mural.
