Let’s make something VERY clear: when we recommend aluminum-clad, we’re not saying every aluminum-clad window is automatically a premium product. 👀

We’ve seen some extremely expensive aluminum-clad products in person—including Pella installed on a $12M home—and in our opinion, the hardware and finish did not come close to justifying the premium price.

Pella, Andersen, Marvin… a big name and a big price tag don’t automatically mean it’s the product we’d recommend. We judge what’s actually in front of us: construction, hardware, finish, operation, and overall quality.

THIS is what decades of exposure can do to wood on the exterior of a window. 😳 Look at how easily it’s coming apart.

“My guy can do it.” 😭 Your guy cannot do it. We’ve seen what happens when “your guy” does it.

This is a real story. A contractor bought brand-new windows from us and had someone else install them. Rainy season came, the installation failed, water got into the house—and suddenly one of our installers was being asked to order new windows for an address we had JUST supplied windows for.

And where was the original installer when everything went wrong? Nowhere to be found.

Windows and doors protect your home from the elements. Proper installation and waterproofing are not where you want to save a few dollars. Los Angeles, CA.

For this project, we’re using custom aluminum-clad windows and doors from Windsor — including bifolds, casements, and more.

And this finish is beautiful.

The exterior is Matte Sable, a warm brown-toned matte finish, while the interior is painted white for a much softer look inside the home.

Robert has worked around a lot of aluminum-clad products, and after some disappointing experiences with other brands, Windsor has become one of the manufacturers he genuinely enjoys specifying for projects like this.

Just look at the frame quality and finish.

Clean. Substantial. Beautiful.

When the staircase isn’t ready yet… apparently the ladder is the staircase. 😂

Before any windows or doors get ordered, we’re checking every rough opening on the ADU and main house to make sure everything is right before production.

And yes… some of us are more excited about climbing that ladder than others. 😂

Windows and doors are one of the more expensive upgrades you can make to a home.

So please — don’t spend all that money on the product and then hand the installation to just anyone.

A handyman, an unqualified installer, or a contractor working outside the proper scope can turn an expensive product into an expensive problem.

For specialized glazing work, licensing, experience, waterproofing knowledge, and proper installation all matter.

The product is only part of what you’re paying for.

Who installs it matters just as much.

Why are we at the jobsite before the windows even arrive?

Because delivery is Monday, and before we send an installation crew out, we’re verifying every rough opening and making sure the site is actually ready.

Measurements. Framing. Waterproofing conditions. Anything that could slow the installation down or create a problem once the products arrive.

That way our installers aren’t showing up and discovering something that should have been caught days earlier.

Robert said it perfectly:

“That’s why we’re expensive. That’s exactly what you pay for.”

You’re not just paying for someone to put a window in a hole.

You’re paying for the process that happens before the installation ever starts.

This is exactly why checking whether a window simply opens and closes is not enough.

This opening is roughly 96" x 96", we’re dealing with waterproofing and sill-pan details, and then you look underneath the frame…

it’s literally hanging in the air.

The window might operate fine today, but that does not make this condition normal.

A large opening needs proper support, proper waterproofing, and the correct installation details underneath it — not just a sash that happens to move.

These are the things we look for before they become bigger problems later.
