Plant of the Day: Day 22 🪰
🌱 Venus Flytrap (Dionaea Muscipula) is an amazing carnivorous plant that loves to eat bugs! There are so many different carnivorous specimens that each have their own unique way to provide all the nutrients it needs!
🌱 Venus Fly traps are native in small wetlands of North and South Carolina ! Miss American gurrrrl😜! They thrive with lots of sunlight 14-16 hours but can also thrive with a smaller time!(based on the care of my plant) It requires nutrient poor soil and using distilled water keeping the soil moist and not soggy! It is so cool witnessing the way all carnivorous plants eat!
🌱 Venus plant gets its nutrients is by having nector on the leaf walls and releasing sweet fruity scent to attract insects inside! In the inner lining of the plant it has “trigger hairs” that triggers it to snap shut once prey is on top. In order for it to snap the prey has to touch two or more of the trigger hairs and has to be there for about 20 seconds. The more the insect struggles the more it closes shut! Once it shut it begins to digest and release acid to dissolve parts of the insect! After a couple of days the plant will open and be ready to catch its new prey!
🌱 Each movement the plant does use so much energy it doesn’t want to have false alarms. They can only shut 5-7 times its lifespans so please do not force it to shut or put random things! They thrive on eating live bugs! The fly I gave it was half alive hehehe
