They need space to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself.

That’s why I created The Reflection Letter.

At the beginning of this year, I created a timeline for almost everything.

I mapped out the goals I wanted to reach, the projects I hoped to launch, and when I believed each milestone should happen. At the time, the plan felt realistic. I just didn’t know how much this year would ask me to adapt.

My health continued to shape how much energy I had available from one week to the next. Some plans moved forward more slowly than expected. Others had to be postponed altogether. And as the months passed, I became increasingly aware of the distance between where I thought I would be—and where I actually was.

By the middle of the year, I calculated that I was about three months behind.

For a while, that number felt like evidence that I wasn’t doing enough.

But when I spent an entire day reflecting on the past six months, I began to see the year differently.

I stopped looking only at what remained unfinished and started paying attention to what it had taken to arrive here. The days I showed up when I had the energy. The plans I adjusted when circumstances changed. The ideas I continued nurturing, even when I couldn’t act on them yet.

And when I looked at the year that way, I realized I had still accomplished many of the things that mattered most to me.

Maybe I wasn’t failing to keep up.

Maybe I was measuring myself against a timeline that no longer reflected the reality of my life.

That realization didn’t suddenly erase the disappointment I sometimes feel. I still wish certain things had happened sooner. I still have goals I want to reach and projects waiting for my attention.

But I no longer want to spend the rest of the year trying to outrun the version of the plan I made in January.

I want to move forward from where I am now—with a clearer understanding of my capacity, greater intention around where I invest my energy, and more compassion for the pace this season requires.

Because the year isn’t over.

There is still time to create, to grow, to make meaningful progress—and perhaps even to be surprised by what can unfold when I stop measuring the future against a timeline created in the past.

Maybe we don’t always need to “catch up.”
