On this beautiful spring day, we pause to remember those who left ordinary places—front porches, family tables, fields, gardens, neighborhoods—and never returned home.

I always think there’s something comforting about the rhythm of seasons. Year after year, things bloom again. Trees leaf out. Birds return. The world quietly remembers.

Maybe that’s one way we honor people too. We tell their stories. We say their names. We plant something. We notice the beauty still unfolding around us and hold gratitude alongside grief.

Today I’m thankful for those who gave up their futures so the rest of us could keep tending ours.

Wishing you a meaningful Memorial Day—and a moment to stand still in the sunshine and remember.

Hello, friends! I finally have a new Sunday Letter for you. This one includes phenology journaling at the beautiful Central Library in Little Rock, antique Paris chairs hiding mysterious acorns, backyard wildlife sightings, slow writing, and more!

As always, thank you for reading along and sharing a little piece of life with me. ❤️

Gardens, old libraries, hidden acorns, backyard wildlife, and slow writing—spring reflections from Arkansas author Talya Boerner.

When you go to the Central Library in Little Rock and see your own book! Honestly, it is a thrill I will never get over.

LIGHTS OUT ARKANSAS - peak bird migration is underway!

200+ million birds are expected to migrate north tonight (4-21-26). Turning off your porch lights will aid the birds in flight.

The bird migration is so cool.
