Hi Friends, Family, and Community Members,

Many of you have read or heard about Bob and Sharon McIver. They lost their ENTIRE home, ALL of its contents, both of their vehicles. They lost EVERYTHING in the landslide on Hwy 229/Siletz River Hwy in December. Their homeowners insurance has denied the claim as “An act of God.” They are starting over in their 70s with nothing but the clothes on their back.

Bob and Sharon have been in a hotel since December 15th, paying out of pocket and with the GoFundMe monies that were raised for them.

The great news is that they found a rental that they will be moving into on March 1st. But they need ALL of the basic necessities to make their house a home.

Hi All,

I have had the great honor of coming alongside Bob and Sharon McIver. First only knowing them as community members, and now as friends. Bob and Sharon lost their entire home, and all of its contents in the mudslide on Hwy 229. They are currently staying in a local hotel, and trying to pick up the pieces from their tremendous loss. They left their home in the middle of the landslide, with only their clothes on their back and a flashlight. Their immediate needs consist of securing housing, covering their current living and food expenses at the hotel, and purchasing items, such as new dentures and more. Both of their vehicles were also lost in the mudslide. It is my hope that we can bind together as a community and contribute to this GoFundMe that they will have immediate access to, as the beneficiaries. Bob and Sharon are lovely people. It has been the greatest joy getting to know them personally, and to help advocate for their needs. To date, their homeowner’s insurance has denied the claim as “an act of God.” If you are unable to make a financial donation, would you please consider sharing this GoFundMe as a way to expand the help to those from outside our community desiring to contribute? We ripped out what was there. And the vision started to become a reality for this guest bathroom on the Siletz River. Radiant heated floors, river rock tile flooring, custom tile from Pratt and Larsen, Double shower heads with a wand, and of course the blue heron and hummingbird themed towels and shower curtain. New rustic lights. A bluetooth ceiling fan light that plays music and changes colors. The Blue heron tile mosaic, and we even found the blue heron shower curtain hooks.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is celebrated on June 19th to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. Specifically, it marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War was over and that enslaved people were free. This was more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
