Happy Labor Day weekend from PaintWerks.

This one is for the trades. The painters, drywall finishers, framers and crew leads who show up early, climb the lifts and put in honest work that holds up for years. The job gets done because skilled people do it.

Uneven paint shows up four ways: streaks, roller marks, flashing and patches that bleed through. Each has a different cause and a different fix.

Streaks and roller marks: usually technique or a cheap roller cover. Not enough paint, or rolling back into a drying edge.
Flashing: sheen difference where you patched or primed unevenly. The wall looks blotchy in raking light.
Patches showing through: spot primer skipped. The repair drinks paint differently than the wall around it.

The fix is almost never another coat over the problem. It is sand or skim, prime correctly, then repaint the full plane.

How long does paint actually last? Depends on the surface.

Interior walls: 7 to 10 years.
Trim and doors: 4 to 7 years. They take the hands, the cleaning, the door slams.
Exterior: 5 to 10 years depending on sun and weather exposure.

Ohio climate is hard on exterior paint. Freeze-thaw, summer UV, humidity swings. South and west elevations always fail first.

Signs it is time: fading, chalking, cracking, caulk failure at the joints. Catch it before bare substrate shows and you repaint instead of strip and repaint.

Most painting companies sub out drywall and framing. We self-perform. That changes the finish.

Commercial interior repaint, church in Gahanna. Vaulted ceiling, recessed lighting, full sanctuary.

High open ceilings change the whole job. Scissor lifts and scaffold instead of ladders. Cut lines you can see from 30 feet down. Color consistency across a ceiling plane that catches every light fixture.

We ran drywall finish to Level 5, primed and topcoated the full space. Crews worked around the congregation schedule so services never stopped.

This is commercial interior work that has to look clean from the floor and from the balcony.

Yes you can paint vinyl siding. But there are rules, and breaking them gets you bubbling, peeling siding inside a year.

Rule 1: color has to be the same shade or lighter than the original. Vinyl-safe colors only. Go darker and the siding absorbs heat, warps and buckles.
Rule 2: 100 percent acrylic latex made for vinyl. Nothing else holds.
Rule 3: honest prep. Wash, dry, no painting over chalk or mildew.

Do it right and the finish holds 8 to 10 years. Do it wrong and you are residing the house.

Three commercial substrates dominate every Columbus building: CMU concrete block, gypsum drywall, and metal roof or floor deck.

Each one needs a different primer system. CMU gets block filler. Drywall gets PVA. Metal gets DTM.

Mismatch the primer to the substrate and the topcoat fails inside 24 months regardless of brand.

The most common spec mistake we see on commercial paint bids: a bidder offering "one product for everything" on a project that has all three substrates. They are going to miss on at least two of them.
