Over the last 7 years I have been slowly turning the backyard into a native habitat.
When I moved here....no pollinators. Like rarely saw a honey bee or bumblebee. Never saw butterflies.

Now....I have a thriving ecosystem when any given day I see a plethora of native insects- bees and butterflies included. Last year I had black swallowtail, monarch, and spicebush caterpillars.

Integrate natives with your favorite cultivars. Take out what you don't care for anymore or what's spreading too much and replace with a native plant. You'll be surprised at how fast you will create a happy little ecosystem!
