Working on the group of pitcher plants on the painting upside down for 2 hours felt like I got almost nothing done. I’ll be back at it after the holiday weekend!

Start of day 3 painting the water plants. We’re painting upside down!

Day 2 painting the water plants. It was a busy day, so I was only able to use one color - blue. Shadows are starting to build and add more dimension.

Today I painted the first layer of the water plants in watercolor. I’ve used 2 shades of green and one shade of brown so far. I’m using Koi watercolors they build well and are very vibrant. I’m letting it dry overnight for the next layer.

Welcome back to Manic Monday! This week I have been sketching my watercolor painting of the water plants on the HUGE (18x24) paper! it's been a while since I did anything this large and it was a rough start! I'm still working on figuring out the video editing, so hopefully next week I don't have camera's watermark.

I love that my desk angle is adjustable. With how huge this painting is, I have been standing up and sitting down just to be able to sketch it out. My reference photo for this painting has so much detail! With the large surface, I’ve found myself erasing entire sections and redrawing because I’m not drawing big enough.

The votes are in and you want a huge painting! I have the watercolor paper taped down and ready for me to sketch out the water plants. This is going to have a ton of detail!

Which size paper should I use on my next project? 18x24, 11x15, or 5x7? I’m painting my water plants from the botanical garden. So much detail, it’s going to be a challenge!
