Quality starts with what’s behind the finish materials.

We just wrapped up this outdoor kitchen project featuring concrete foundations, a fully welded 2” x 2” steel frame, heavy granite countertops, stacked stone veneer, a built-in BBQ, and a custom entertainment wall finished with GTO aluminum cladding that gives the look of real wood without the maintenance.

The finished product looks great, but it’s the structure underneath that determines how well it performs years from now.

There’s something satisfying about seeing the final details come together.

A few weeks ago this project was all structure. Today the finishing touches are going in and the vision is becoming reality.

Our scope on this project was the custom cantilever patio cover—designed to create a large shaded outdoor living area while keeping the space open, clean, and architectural.

One of the goals here wasn’t to make the structure the loudest feature—it was to make it feel like it almost disappears while creating a huge amount of usable shade.

Big credit to our general contractor partner on this project for bringing the outdoor kitchen, media wall, stacked stone finishes, and porcelain paver installation to life and tying everything together.

We love seeing multiple trades and specialists come together to create outdoor spaces that feel seamless.

This patio cover didn’t fail because of one issue… it failed because the entire system wasn’t engineered to perform under real-world conditions.

Take a closer look and you’ll see the details—
deformed beams, minimal fasteners, and connection points that simply weren’t designed to handle structural loads.

In several areas, there were only about three screws holding critical connections together… where a properly engineered system would typically require six to eight. That difference matters. It directly impacts how loads are transferred, especially under wind stress.

Once those connections began to fail, the structure lost its integrity—and the result speaks for itself.

This isn’t one of our builds. But it’s a clear example of why design, engineering, and construction all need to work together from the beginning.

Most outdoor kitchens are built with wood framing or cheap light-gauge 3-inch metal stud framing. Many of those builds are finished with thin 1/8-inch cement board and lighter materials that simply are not designed to hold up long term outdoors.

This one is different.

We fabricated this entire custom outdoor kitchen in our shop using heavy-duty 2” x 2” welded tube steel framing so every measurement, appliance opening, and section is built with precision before it ever reaches the job site.

This is a large U-shaped outdoor kitchen featuring a built-in barbecue, refrigerator space, trash enclosure, drawer package, side burner, media wall, granite countertops, stucco finish, and a reinforced concrete slab foundation underneath the entire structure.

We are finishing this kitchen with 1/2-inch concrete board over the welded steel framing for a much stronger and more durable structure.

By building these kitchens in sections, we can pre-fit everything in our fabrication yard, transport it to the project site, and bolt it together for a cleaner, stronger, and more accurate finished product.

This is the difference between a basic barbecue island and a true custom outdoor kitchen built to last.

This patio cover completely transformed this backyard.

This custom insulated roof panel patio cover spans approximately 55 feet long by 14 feet out from the house, creating an incredible amount of shaded outdoor living space across the entire rear of the home.

We built this project with a heavy-duty double steel beam design, steel posts, and a full hanger connection back into the house for long-term strength and durability.

The white insulated roof panels paired with the black fascia beams, trim, and posts give this cover a super clean, modern look that matches perfectly with the porcelain paver patio and outdoor kitchen below.

The outdoor kitchen area turned out amazing with the stone veneer finish, built-in grill, large countertop space, and bar seating area all protected underneath this massive patio cover.

Most patio covers look strong when they are first built… but what matters is how they perform years later.

This patio cover failed because the steel posts rusted out at the base from constant soil and moisture exposure. The original contractor used thinner fluted steel posts instead of the heavier steel the engineering called for, and the posts were never properly waterproofed where they entered the ground.

Over time, the steel weakened until the entire structure collapsed.

Not all patio covers are built the same.

At Green Guru Landscaping, we build our patio covers with heavier steel, larger footings, proper waterproofing, and engineering designed to last for years to come.

If you already have an older patio cover, it may be worth having it inspected before it becomes a safety issue.

This patio cover is on another level. Measuring 24’ x 24’, this structure was built with heavy-duty steel and engineered for maximum strength, long spans, and a clean modern appearance.

The build features 6” x 6” quarter-inch thick steel posts, massive 4’ x 4’ footings, double 12-gauge heavy beam profiles, 10-foot post spacing, and a huge 12-foot cantilever reaching out over the pool deck.

By using larger beams and wider spacing, we created a wide open covered area with fewer posts blocking the view and more functional outdoor living space underneath.

Projects like this are what separate a true engineered patio cover from the lightweight kits you see everywhere else. Strong, clean, modern, and built to last.
