🌱 What Are Mycorrhizae? Understanding Nature’s Hidden Partnership
Mycorrhizae are one of nature’s most powerful and fascinating relationships. The word “mycorrhiza” comes from Greek, meaning fungus (myco) and root (rhiza). It refers to a symbiotic association between beneficial soil fungi and plant roots, where both organisms help each other survive and grow.
In this partnership, the fungus attaches to or pe*****tes the plant roots, forming an extensive network in the soil. This fungal network acts like an extension of the root system, allowing plants to access resources that would otherwise be unavailable.
🌿 How Do Mycorrhizae Benefit Plants?
Mycorrhizal fungi greatly improve the absorption of water and essential nutrients, especially phosphorus, zinc, copper, and nitrogen. Because fungal hyphae are much finer than plant roots, they can explore tiny soil pores and reach nutrients beyond the root zone.
