Big thank you to Mike and Jane Quint in Michigan City for choosing Fly 'Em High for their new flagpole.

I met with them about a month ago, they had a sectional pole that was broken and bent and they wanted to inquire about a new pole.

Last week Jane called and said she wanted to move forward and was wanting to get this 20' satin aluminum flagpole as a gift to Mike for his 90th birthday.

Mike came out and hung out with me while I worked and told me some amazing stories. I love hearing history from those who lived it. I was asking questions because you don't get many chances to stop and listen to people who have seen so much and are around to share it. How as a young child, his family fled Romania to Austria after the Russian invasion during WWII. He told me about coming to America, meeting his wife, his days as a bakery owner in East Chicago and much more. It was damn cool and it is another reason why we love doing what we do, the people we meet and the relationships we build mean a great deal to us.

The flagpole is outfitted with a 3' x 5' American Flag and a 3' x 5' Austria Flag.

Happy Birthday Mike!! Wishing you many many more.

The August 11th derecho caused a tremendous amount of tree and property damage. Some flagpoles were bent in the storm as well and had to be replaced. Through one of those unfortunate instances, we were able to help an Army Veteran in Merrillville.

I have a customer in Merrillville who asked me in late July if I could take a look at and possibly repair his friends flagpole. His Army Veteran friend, who is 80 years old and wheelchair bound, loves to spend nice days on his back patio watching the flag wave. Unfortunately, he had a piece pole that kept breaking in storms, it started as a 20' pole but was down to about 13', hanging on by a thread. I had set up a date to look at the pole on Thursday August 13th but the derecho hit on August 11th, so those plans never materialized.

Soon after the storm, I started to receive calls about damaged and bent poles that needed to be replaced. One of those was calls was from Pastor Dennis Meyer who had a 25' flagpole that bent badly in the storm. Before I replaced it, I asked him what he wanted to do with the bent pole. Pastor Meyer said he didn't really have any plans for it, so I told him about the Army Veteran and his situation. I told Pastor Meyer that I had an idea of taking his bent pole and turning it into a 20' pole for the Veteran. Pastor Meyer said he loved that idea and that he wanted to donate it to him.

I called my customer in Merrillville and told him I had a better solution for his Veteran friend. I had a donated bent 25' pole that I would clean up, cut the bend out of, rearrange some hardware and turn into an arrow straight and strong 20' flagpole.

So in early September, I went to Merrillville and donated my time and supplies to remove the sectional pole and to install Pastor Meyer's donated 25' pole that I converted into a 20' pole.

The Army Veteran sat on the patio in his Army hat and watched me work. When I was done and raised the American Flag, he said he couldn't believe that was his pole. He kept thanking me and I finally said, "No, Thank You!" "Thank You for your service and all that you've done for us."

I told him that sometimes a good thing can come out of an unfortunate situation and that this was one of those times. I hope he will be watching that flag flying high for many more years to come.

A big thank you to Pastor Meyer as well, this wouldn't have been possible without his kind donation. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Big thank you to John Martin in Michigan City, for choosing Fly 'Em High for his new flagpole. John had a sectional pole that finally succumbed to the constant winds it was subjected to near the lake.

We replaced it with this beautiful 20' satin aluminum and outfitted it with a 3' x 5' American Flag.

This 20' pole is rated for 118 mph unflagged and 85 mph flagged, so barring another extreme derecho or serious wind event when the flag is up, this pole will stand strong to most anything coming off of Lake Michigan. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Recently installed this three pole set up at the new Porter County Highway Department building in Valparaiso.

These are ECX Series satin aluminum flagpoles with 5" butts. A 25' flanked by two 20'.

We outfitted the 25' pole with a 4' x 6' American and a 3' x 5' POW/MIA.

The 20' poles are flying a 3' x 5' State of Indiana and a 3' x 5' Porter County Flag.

In our 35 years we've seen a handful of poles get bent but we've never had poles get folded over like we did today.

Winds were forecast to be in the 70 mph range, unfortunately, in some places in NW Indiana, they overperformed reaching 100+ mph.

This was an unusually strong storm but reinforces why it is a good idea to take your flags down if you can if there is a severe storm risk.

With that being said, poles and property can be replaced, we more importantly hope everyone made it through the storm today and are safe. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

In November of last year, the New York Blower Company in LaPorte held a grand opening for their newly built office building and greenspace/park.

A 25' flagpole was installed as a part of that new construction (not by us) and although it was a beautiful pole, it was a bit too short and didn't fit in as well as it should've with the new building.

New York Blower contacted us to inquire whether the 25' pole could be moved and a larger pole installed in its place. We advised it could and offered up the largest pole the existing sleeve could accept back.

A few weeks ago, we removed the 25' bronze anodized pole and reinstalled it in the park area with a 5' x 8' American Flag. New York Blower then installed a monument honoring our Veterans in front of that pole, an awesome touch.

We then installed a very large ECA30' bronze anodized pole with a 6" butt where the 25' had been and outfitted it with a 6' x 10' American Flag.

And we might be biased, but we believe there is nothing better than a magnificent flagpole, or in this case two magnificent flagpoles, flying large American Flags, standing out as focal points and enhancing this beautiful addition to the community of LaPorte, they look amazing as does the area as a whole!! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Thank you to Jerry Hesler in Valparaiso for choosing Fly 'Em High for his new flagpole.

Jerry had a sectional pole that was damaged and repaired many times. One of the bigger storms earlier this year finally provided the knock out blow, so we replaced it with this nice 20' satin aluminum.

We outfitted the pole with a 3' x 5' American Flag and a 3' x 5' Purdue Flag. Now as an IU grad, it pained me to install that second flag but the customer gets what the customer wants.

In all seriousness, the pole and the flags look great and the pole will stand the test of time and the weather unlike the previous one. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
