Aspen. In its raw form it’s nearly white, almost blond. The warm brown you see here comes from thermal modification, a heat treatment the wood goes through long before it’s installed, and it lands a little different on every board. Which is why no two walls come out quite the same.

Finns have always used aspen where a sauna touches skin, and part of it is just how it looks: quiet, even, easy on the eye, the kind of wood that lets the light do the work and the room settle around you.

Some outdoor sites don’t let us take the easy way in. No wide gate, no clear path to the backyard, no way to bring a finished sauna through in one piece, even by crane.

So we bring it in as parts and build it where it’s going to live.

Every board carried back by hand and assembled on site. Same build, same result.

Some light reading for your evening.

This study doesn’t show long term immunity or benefits but it does show how sauna can benefit your body in the short term. You feel something when you sauna. Clearer, steadier, better for the days that follow… which is why we weren’t surprised one bit at these findings.

When we think about lighting a sauna, we start from below. Set beneath the benches, low and warm, the light catches the grain of the wood and softens every edge in the room. Overhead light flattens a space and gives it that clinical, top-lit feel.

Light from below does the opposite. The shadows settle, the wood glows, and the whole room feels calmer the moment you step in. You notice it before you can explain it. That’s the point.

Most people think of sauna as a winter thing. Summer just changes the rhythm.

The heat feels different against warm air, and the outdoor shower or cold plunge after is its own kind of relief. You move slower between rounds, linger longer by the water.

Different season, same pull. It works its way into the week either way.
